Peggy Gilliam Obituary

Peggy Jo (Freeborn) Gilliam

November 20, 1946 - August 1, 2025

Born in Tulsa on November 20, 1946, Peggy was the cherished only child of Stephen and Virginia (Griffey) Freeborn. She graduated from Edison H.S. in 1965, then attended Drury University and the University of Tulsa. She was a proud Tri-Delta and varsity volleyball player. She joked about being a tomboy and nominated for Homecoming Queen. She earned her bachelors in Sports Education. In 1969, Peggy married her college sweetheart, James "Jim" Gilliam. The newlyweds began their adventure together stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, during Jim's military service. They settled in Norman while Jim pursued his masters in Radiation Physics and dental degree. Peggy worked in Financial Aid at OU. In 1979, they welcomed their daughter Stacey and made a home in Noble, OK. The couple established the town's first dental practice. She enjoyed playing sports, musicals, decorating, lake days, traveling, and volunteering. Her service included the Stovall Museum, Beta Sigma Phi, Junior League, BPW, and UMC. She's survived by her husband Jim, daughter Stacey Malone, son-in-law Cody Malone, grandson CJ Malone, and brother-in-law Larry Gilliam all of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
