Phillip Sloan Obituary
Always one to do anything for a laugh or smile, Phil Sloan was loved by all who knew him. Phillip "Phil" Craig Sloan, 77, formerly of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his son and daughter by his side.
He was born in New York City on January 2, 1947, to Joseph and Charlotte Sloan. His family lived in Hell's Kitchen, New York before moving upstate to Liverpool, where his parents owned a Five & Dime. He loved growing up with his extended family and close family friends. After graduating Liverpool High School, Phil moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend the University of Tulsa (TU). While at TU, he joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity and met and married his first wife, Cindy (Hodgson) Sloan. Phil went on to graduate TU with his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1971.
While completing his degree, Phil began working part time at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK). He spent the next 35 years working for BCBSOK, including a relocation to the Oklahoma City office, before he retired in 2005. During his time at BCBSOK he wore many hats but was most proud as Vice President of Marketing and of the lifelong friends he made throughout his career.
Phil is survived by his wife of 25 years, Julie Sloan; his son, Stephen (Meghan) Sloan; his daughter, Susan (William) Kent; his sister, Carole (Phil) Finch; his sister-in-law, Nancy Sloan; his brother-in-law, Phil (Michelle) Jackson; his nieces, Karin Sloan DeLaney and Kristin Sloan Brown; his grandchildren, Giselle Sloan, Cassidy Sloan, William "Liam" Kent and Philippa "Pippa" Kent; and many cherished cousins.
Phil is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sloan; his mother, Charlotte (Hill) Sloan; his brother, Richard Sloan; and his nephew, Derek Kurtz.
A Celebration of Life for Phil will be held on March 23, 2024 from 2 pm - 4 pm at The Greens County Club (13100 Green Valley Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73120).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation, in Phil's name, to Oklahoma Humane Society, to honor his love for dogs.
The family of Phil wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Autumn Life, OU Edmond's Emergency Room (especially Renee), OU Edmond's ICU (especially Dr. Smith) and OU Edmond Hospital for all they did for him.
