Rachel Zebrowski Obituary

Rachel Williams Zebrowski

Rachel Williams

Zebrowski. Age 70.

On Tuesday April 26, 2022, Rachel left this world peacefully surrounded by her beloved daughters Serena and Polly and devoted husband Benjamin Costello III. Despite a nearly five-year battle with cancer; her wonderful sense of humor, her spirit of gratitude and endless appreciation for the wonders of life remained unshakable.

Rachel was born in Cleveland, OH. to Pauline Bolton and David R. Williams Jr. In Hunting Valley, and during summers on a ranch in British Columbia she discovered her lifelong love of horses and riding. Rachel graduated from Garrison Forest School, before attending Sarah Lawrence College, and then UCLA School of Architecture & Urban Planning. However, it was Sarah Lawrence where she felt true affinity. She served for 10 years as an active member of the Board of Trustees and as Chair of the Board's Physical Facilities Committee, she provided essential guidance and leadership on capital projects, positively impacting the campus and supplying essential support in the design and construction of the Barbara Walters Campus Center.

Rachel lived for over 30 years in Tulsa, OK. where she and Ben, her husband of 20 years, raised her two girls. Together they travelled extensively, usually with Rachel exploring and drawing details of cathedrals and ruins while the family waited patiently. To know Rachel was to know a warm, kind-hearted, intelligent woman who had the discipline of an engineer and the soul of an artist.

Her love of architecture and design became her lifelong passion and pursuit. She was a founding partner of Page-Zebrowski Architects, a partner with Urban Design Group, and later was President and Director of Design at Miles Associates, Oklahoma City, Tulsa. In a statement from the Miles firm. "Rachel joined Miles in 2005 and during her tenure served as the President and Director of Design of Miles Associates through 2019. Rachel was known for her passion for design, broad architectural expertise, and loyal dedication to her staff, clients, and the greater Tulsa community" earning her respect and acclaim throughout her career.

Rachel was a supporter of many causes and organizations in her home city of Tulsa. She served on the boards of American Therapeutic Riding Center, the Tulsa Ballet, and Knowledge is Power Preparatory/Tulsa. She was a supporter of the local Planned Parenthood organization, a member of the Tulsa Public Schools Board Oversight Committee, trustee of the Philbrook Museum of Art, member of the Chamber of Commerce committee on public schools in the 1990s, and for ten years she was a Mayoral Appointee to Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust.

Rachel is survived by husband Benjamin Costello III, daughters Serena Zebrowski and Pauline Zebrowski from her prior marriage to Joseph Zebrowski, sister Pauline Lampshire, brother-in-law Nick Lampshire, brother David R. Williams III, nieces Rachel Kremer, Ana Williams, Isabel Bacon, nephew Tony Bacon and her step children Ben Costello, Megan Costello and step grand daughter Amelia White.

Rachel was a kind hearted and selfless person who always had the best intentions for all. She was fun and caring and always very good to me. I feel tremendous heartache for her daughters and husband Ben (my boss) and all who will miss her terribly. Always a friend and she fought valiantly and she will be missed. Fly with the angels Rachel you are free now!

I always admired Rachel's creative talent as an architect, but she was a special lady in so many ways...so smart & interesting, so personable & genuine. My heart aches for the family, Serena & Polly, & for all of us who knew her.

I had the privilege of working for Rachel when she and Kathleen Page founded their practice. Her kindness was appreciated and her architectural knowledge was an inspiration. God rest her soul.

Dear Williams, Zebrowski, and Costello family.

I was thinking recently how long I had known Rachel and I would think 40 years. I was thinking that with the Tapestry of the Williams enter twining with the Morgan family my entire life.

David Williams Sr. & my mother Joan Morgan were Godparents to to your cousin Jamie Williams. I am Godson to Joe Williams Sr. & Penny Williams.
I also believe strongly in Gratitude - to continue to the wellness of Humanity. Rachel - your mom, wife, sister and best friend had a gentle AURA, spirit - and simple kindness.
Gorgeous person - inside and out! smart! - but more importantly - another advocate for Equality - YEAH!
She will always be with me - we all loved Rachel!

Rachel was such a wonderful person. I only knew her as a client, but I felt as if I knew her as a friend. She was brilliant, but knew how to dumb it down in conversations. What a loss to this town and to the world.
