Randy Barker Obituary

Barker, Randy Eugene

Dec 30, 2024

If you ever sat next to Randy Barker during a St. Louis Cardinals game, you knew three things: he had strong opinions about the lineup, he could recount the exact play that cost them the 1985 World Series, and if you didn't want the Redbirds to win, you were wrong. Randy passed away on December 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, enduring integrity, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones.

Born in Inglewood, California, in 1946, Randy was a soldier, an oilman, a businessman, and later in life, a general contractor who built numerous buildings in Tulsa. He served his country with pride in the U.S. Army and earned both his undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University of Tulsa. His sharp mind, strong work ethic, and straightforward approach to life made him respected and admired.

Randy was a person of determination. During a grueling forced march in the Army, led by a particularly strict sergeant, only four soldiers remained at the end -he was one of them. That resilience and perseverance defined him throughout his life.

While Randy wasn't one for grand speeches or unnecessary fuss, those who knew him understood his loyalty, humor, and quiet generosity. He believed in showing up, keeping your word, and skipping the nonsense. He didn't waste words, but when he spoke, you listened.

To his immediate family, he was known simply as Pa Pa, a name that carried with it warmth, strength, and a lifetime of love. Randy is survived by his wife, Karen; his two sons, Brent and Blaine; his sister, Anne; his brother, Clarence; and his three grandchildren, Taylor, Sky, and Tyler.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, those who knew him are encouraged to honor his memory in their own way -perhaps by watching a Cardinals game, looking out for the people you care about, or fixing something instead of replacing it.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested you simply love your family with all your heart -and to move on, because that's what Randy would have done. Oh, and never, under any circumstances, root against the Sooners!

Randy also had two sons that preceded him in death, Scott and Richard. This was not left out intentionally, but due to the ignorance of the writer thinking that only those who survived him were to be included. My sincerest apologies to you, Shirley, and the family members of Scott and Richard if they were wondering why the obituary did not mention them. It definitely should have!
