Robert Grubb Obituary

GRUBB - Dr. Robert D., was born April 17, 1919 in Watseka, IL to Chester B. and Gladys (Dale) Grubb. He passed away peacefully Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the age of 88. Dr. Grubb grew up, the son of a minister, in Bloomington, IL during the depression.He attended Bloomington High School and Illinois Wesleyan University where he was member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and entered the US Navy during World War II, serving as a physician on the USS Clarendon in the Pacific theater.He completed his internship at Cook County Hospital and served a residency at Wesley Memorial Hospital in anesthesiology and did his residency in internal medicine at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. He married Alice McCarty in 1945 and they moved to Tulsa in 1949 where he practiced medicine for 50 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and compassionate, caring physician. Dr. Grubb was a longtime member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church; president of the Tulsa County Medical Society; and, a board member of Goodwill Industries for many years.He served as president of the Tulsa Men's Club and received accolades from the Boy Scouts.Dr. Grubb enjoyed a life-long interest in science and geography and was an avid reader of scientific publications. He loved golf, gardening, bridge, dancing and most of all his many wonderful friends. Dr. Grubb was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, William Grubb; and his sister, Mary Jane Humphrey. He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Alice M. Grubb; sons and daughters-in- law, Dr. William R. and Becky Grubb of Tulsa and Allen and Stacy Grubb of Katy, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Harry Havins of Sugar Land, TX and Alice and Charlie Adams of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren, Dana Weart and her husband Jeremy, David and Deanna Grubb, Megan, MacKenzie, Lindsay, Chase, Kristen, and Carlton Adams, Kelsey, Conner, Kyle and Courtney Grubb; and, many nieces and nephews. Dr. Grubb was a remarkable person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4p.m., Sunday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Monday at Boston Avenue Methodist Church.
