Roger Hagans Obituary

Roger Hagans, Jr.

Roger Hagans, Jr. passed away unexpectedly January 6, 2022, in Tulsa at the age of 64. Born in New York City in 1957, he was a global citizen, raised in Libya, Spain, and his beloved Brazil. Fluent in several languages, he was a scholar and a gentleman who never wavered in his quest for knowledge or in his delight for debate. Those who knew him also knew the verbal argument was over before it even began. A graduate of Duke University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, his career in energy and construction spanned the US, Latin America, and Africa, where he made life-long friends and associates.

After raising his family in Argentina, he settled with the love of his life in Tulsa. Roger's new adventures included publishing a spy thriller under a pseudonym and mastering the art of flying in multiple aircraft types as an Airline Transport rated pilot. He circumnavigated Latin America in his beloved King Air and devoted many hours to flying combat wounded veterans and their families to medical appointments across the country. Aerobatic flying was his new passion.

He was devoted to his family and his country. The son and father of U.S. Marines, Roger embodied the phrase "no better friend, no worse enemy." Along with his friends, those who will mourn his too early passing are his wife, Elizabeth; children, Chase Hagans and his wife, Tracy, Claire Palmer and her husband, Thomas, and Elissa Hagans; along with his grandchildren, Christopher and Isla Hagans.

There will be no service. Roger's final resting place will be Walloon Lake, Michigan - where he was at peace with the world.

We always thought we would reconnect with Roger, and regret not pursuing it sooner. Back in the 80's we were good friends and worked together at Exxon in New Orleans and Houston. Roger was an usher at our wedding and we have very fond memories of our times together. Our first sons played together in Kingwood TX briefly before we went separate ways. We always admired his desire to travel and see the world.

We just heard about Roger and send our sincere sympathy to Roger's family. Roger was one of our favorite aerobatic students. When he first came to us for aerobatic lessons he wasn't sure if he'd like it, but he fell in love with it and scheduled several more sessions. We will miss flying with him! RIP to a wonderful man. I only met Roger a couple of times but he has left a very lasting impression. As founder and AirBoss of the Veterans Airlift Command, I can state without equivocation that he was one of our favorite supporters. Eagerly flying combat wounded military and family members for medical or other compassionate purposes in his private jet, and personally engaging with them was a blessing beyond their comprehension. His selfless acts of generosity will be remembered fondly by our staff and all those he provided this care for. God Bless his family, of whom he spoke proudly. Blue Skys snd Tailwinds Roger.
