Stanley Brander Obituary

BRANDER - Stanley A., Jr., died Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Beloved son of Stan and Kathryn "Kats" Brander. Stan was born in 1930 and was a lifelong Tulsan. Stan was a wonderful teller of stories and jokes, and always had an anecdote to share with a twinkle in his eye. He passionately pursued a wide variety of interests throughout his life, including competitive sailing at Grand Lake and around the world, golfing, fly fishing, woodworking and volunteer work. He never did anything halfway. For instance, as a fly fisherman, he learned to tie the most beautiful flies and craft the most spectacular rods from rare hardwoods, which he then gave away to his friends. He combined his passions for golf and volunteerism by serving as chairman for many golf tournaments, including the PGA and Tour Championships. In his retirement, he derived a great deal of pleasure from community service, making weekly Meals on Wheels deliveries and telling entertaining stories to the meal recipients. Stan will be greatly missed by: Jean Johnson Brander, his wife of 55 years; his sister, Barbara Tate of Newport Beach, CA; his 4 beloved children: Stanley "Trip" Brander, Katy Brander, Brent Brander and Kelly Brander; his daughters-in-law: Robin, Dee Dee and Shelley, his 7 grandchildren; and all who were fortunate enough to be treated to his wit, charm and gentle nature. Service 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Church of the Resurrection. In lieu of flowers, donations to Clare House, Tulsa Boys Home or Church of the Resurrection, would be deeply appreciated. Stanley A. Brander, Jr.

Over twenty years ago we first heard about sailing in the Exumas from Stan at Arrowhead Yacht Club. We sadly learned of Stan's passing while docked in the Exumas. Love to Jean and all the family from former owners of "Ms".

Stan was one of my earliest lifelong aquantances in Tulsa.During the war years at Cascia Hall and throughout the years, both before and after my education years away and my Naval Officer period.Jean was a winner as well!Barbara and Stan were fixtures in my early life ,always first class people. My mother ,Allene Hart Michaels.was one of Katherine's,Stan's mother 's, very closest friends and was so for decades. The world needs more people like Stan,he will be a loss.

I have some really fond memories of spending time with "The Branders" when I was growing up in Tulsa. This could either be from the memories of the yearly "Minnesota" - "Green Grunt" camp films held at my Grandmother Morgan's house on 19th St... which were always fun...
Or the "home movies" that I have of Stan and Jean, with mom and dad and friends on the patio of the house on east 46th street. Stan Brander and his family have always been part of good memory and youth.
I am thankful.... Perhaps Stan, Uncle Donnie, and Digger are just in heaven having a good time. I am sure of it!!!! They were all three great people... And let's not forget Virgil Tilly or Joe Peters! Just add to the list!!! Thank you for good times and gratitude!!

Sincerely,

Tim Morgan & family
