Susan Little Obituary

Little, Susan Marie Dunaway

January 2, 1952 - August 22, 2024

Susan Marie Dunaway Little, 72, of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, surrounded by family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Susan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 2, 1952 to Lester and Virginia Dunaway. Susan graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1970. She went on to the University of Florida, earning a Master's Degree in Education, with a focus on reading and literacy. Susan had a full career, teaching in public schools throughout the country. She retired as a Reading Specialist with Baltimore County Public Schools. Susan's greatest joy was her family and she always filled her household with love and support. She also enjoyed exercising, reading, painting, visits to the beach, and spending time with her cats. Before moving back to Florida in 2015, Susan volunteered her time at local animal shelters in Maryland. Susan is survived by her sister, Mary Margaret Allan, her sons Jesse (Jan) Smith and Nick (Jessie) Little, and her granddaughters, Norah and Charlotte Smith, and Aria Little. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. At this time, there is no service scheduled. In memory of Susan, charitable donations can be made to your local animal shelter or any Alzheimer's disease foundations.

I met Susan more than 30 years ago when we came with my brother Laurent to thé US and stayed in North Carolina. My brother was hosted by Susan and her husband. I remember well those beautiful eyes and this gentle and shining smile. I remember to have thought my brother was lucky to share some time with this family. She always had nice words, recomforting presence. She cared about us as a mother would do. Im deeply saddened about her having gone ....i wish she could read this message and i wish her so much Joy, peace and gentle shining Light wherever she is....you re à beautiful person Susan.....

I met Susan in her last years at the Village. She was often in the company of my sister-in-law, Pat, and we shared many visits and chocolate chip cookies. I became very fond of her and worked hard to make her smile. I´m so sorry her life was taken by disease.
