Thomas Patton Obituary

PATTON - Thomas Warren, 91, died in peace on April 8. He was born in Tulsa on December 12, 1916, to Thomas Edward Patton and Florence Montgomery Patton. Known by his family as Bud and by most of his friends as Warren, he spent his entire civilian career with the 4 big downtown Tulsa movie theaters, rising from an usher at the Ritz, right out of high school, to general manager of all 4 theaters at the time of their closings many years later. He was with the Infantry in WW II, where he performed with much distinction and ultimately received 2 battlefield commissions, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, 2 Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with 2 clusters, and a presidential citation for his outstanding combat service in the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by: 1 daughter, Paula Patton Reynold, and husband Gene; 1 son, Jeffrey Warren Patton and wife Stephanie; 1 granddaughter, Laura Arbetello and husband Michael; 1 great- grandson, Adam Thomas Arbetello; 2 sisters, Mary Garrison and Virginia Woods; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Shirley (McDonald); his grandson Dustin Reynolds; 3 sisters: Freida Ramey, Georgia Dale, and Jane Bishop; and 3 brothers: Stanley, Horace (Pinky), and Jack. Warren also leaves Vermia Mooney, who was a very special companion for many years, and many wonderful friends. He was a remarkable man who spent his life bringing entertainment to the residents of Tulsa through the theaters, and bringing laughter and friendship to his family and all those who were fortunate to have known him. He is already and will continue to be incredibly missed, but our memories of him are his final gift to us, and will be kept in our hearts and treasured from now on. Service will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. I was saddened to read of the death of Mr. Patton. I had the great pleasure of working with him in the General Office of Tulsa Downtown Theaters 1957-59. I was in high school when I started part time in the concession stand at the Ritz. He was such a gentleman and treated me as a respected member of the staff. I remember so well, he used to allow me to preview films with him to get my opinion. One film we watched was The Defiant Ones. We both thought it a great film and he decided to bid for the film for the Ritz. This was chancey at the time. There was the opinion in some circles that people would'nt attend because of the racial statement portrayed, but he felt it was a good and needful thing to do in addition to being a wonderful film. This was a time when integration was in its intfantcy. It was a great success. I realize my time there was many years ago, but I have never forgotten Mr. Patton and have remembered him over the years with great fondness.

I am sorry for your loss. I remember my dad, Harold Shafer, used to visit with Mr. Patton about the EX-POW's when my dad came to Tulsa. I don"t know if you remember my dad, but he lived in Lawton, OK and he passed away in 1989.
