Carter, Tracy
Dec 14, 1946 - Jan 25, 2025
Tracy Lee Carter, 78, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning, January 25, 2025.
Born December 14, 1946, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Dan and Oleta (Taylor) Carter, Tracy spent most of his youth in Chelsea before moving to Oologah, where his father served as superintendent of the Will Rogers Birthplace. A talented athlete, Tracy was the point guard on Oologah High School's 1965 State Championship basketball team. During his senior year, he met the love of his life, Carol Bitting.
Tracy attended Bacone College in Muskogee on a basketball scholarship before transferring to Northeastern State University. He and Carol married on January 17, 1969, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Following his natural dexterity and precision, Tracy found his calling as a dental technician. He established Carter Dental Lab, serving dental offices throughout the state. His reputation for integrity was legendary – if Tracy made a tooth, he stood behind his work regardless of how many years had passed.
Music was a lifelong passion for Tracy, who began playing guitar at an early age. He performed with various bands throughout his life, including "The Executives" in Muskogee and most recently with "RendevouX." His talents as a lead guitarist and singer brought joy to countless dances and gatherings across the region.
A man of deep faith, Tracy was a longtime member of Sheridan Avenue Christian Church, where he served as Deacon and Chairman of the Board. Most recently, he was an active member of the "Challengers" Sunday School class at Harvard Avenue Christian Church. His commitment to helping others extended beyond the church walls through his volunteer work.
Tracy was an avid outdoorsman who inherited his love of hunting from his father. He shared his passion for hunting and fishing with his friends and his son Jeff. He was known as a true "crack shot." As an accomplished golfer, Tracy spent countless hours on courses with his family and friends and loved collecting Ping putters. He also loved following his grandchildren's sports teams and of course cheering on the Sooners.
Tracy loved his extended vacations to Port Aransas, TX with wife Carol. They would walk the beaches of St. Joe Island picking up shells and looking for shark teeth. The evenings were spent playing music in local venues with local musician friends. Tracy had the ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol; son Jeff Carter and wife Brooke; daughter Melissa Siemens and husband Chris; grandchildren Lily, Harper, Micco and wife Audrey, Angel, Brent, Clara, and Katie; brother-in-law Bill Adams; and father-in-law Walter Hall and wife Erma. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sherylen Adams.
There will be a celebration of life on February 4, 2025 at 10:30am at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 S. Harvard Ave, Tulsa, OK 74135. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Harvard Avenue Christian Church endowment trust.
