It was sad news to learn of Veron's passing. I feel fortunate to have spoken to Veron this year while he and Christy were in Houston visiting Muffin and Wayne. I was so inspired by our conversation. Vernon was so articulate in his memory of our past.
In spite of the large age difference between Ray and Vernon I always got the impression that besides being brothers, they were also good friends. I know my father had much respect for his little brother. That also transcended to me. I always looked forward to his visits and our trips to Indiana to see his family and see Veron's projects.
Veron's passion for cars was always contagious for me. We made a visit to Indiana one time when I was just starting my teenage years. Vernon was explaining the modifications he had made to a white 1962 Pontiac Catalina where he installed three two barrel carburetors on his Pontiac big block with mechanical linkage. He took me for a demonstration ride to show me the changes in power as each carburetor activated and the unmistakable sounds they made. I did not realize at the time but this was my first ride in a "muscle car". I remember the experience well.
I have always admired Veron's ability to be a "Jack of all trades" but unlike most of us he was a master of all.
My best and with fond memories;
Cousin Glen
