I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Winters. I worked in his laboratory and did research with him at the University of Alabama starting my freshman year until graduation. He was a great mentor during my years at Alabama and even after graduation. His passion for teaching, encouragement, and genuine care for his students helped with my success in life today. I spoke with Dr. Winters via email last week at which time he told me that we would video chat in a couple of days. I regret not being able to have that video chat with him. However, I do find comfort in knowing that, even years after graduation, he would still find the time to check on me. My condolences to Mrs. Winters and the family. Dr. Winters will be missed.
