Jacob Wood Obituary

While returning from a trip that was more pleasure than business, Jacob Dwain Wood (Jake) took his last flight into God's arms as a passenger in his own aircraft. He and his daughter Catherine were in Alliance, Texas, making provisions for his new Gulfstream jet. Jake had been battling multiple health issues for a long time and suffered a heart attack on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. He passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Jake moved his business, Republic Fastener Manufacturing Corp., to Newbury Park in 1974. In 1987 he and his wife Gloria moved into the home they built in Westlake Village, where they have lived ever since. Previously they had lived in Van Nuys since 1961.

He was born in Rexburg, Idaho, on April 15, 1933, and was one of eight children born to Joseph Hirst Wood and Ida Oly Meyers.

Jake is survived by his wife Gloria H. Wood; children, Catherine L. Cardoza (partner Craig) and Jacob J. Wood (wife Sandy); grandchildren, Cisco D. Spano, Anora C. Blackwell, Stephanie H. Pease, Casey L. Matlock, Summer S. Willis, Christine S. Wood, Victoria A. Wood; great-grandchildren, Tim P. Bray, Christopher G. Spano, Hope C. Pease, Hayley C. Bray, Gage C. Pease, Jacob M. Matlock, Vincenzo R. Spano, Darien L. Matlock and Ronan A. Willis; and brothers, George E. Wood and Arlen B. Wood.

Jake was an uncommon man who always seemed able to do anything he set his mind to. He was a risk taker and an achiever whose accomplishments are truly too many to list completely. His company, Republic Fastener Manufacturing. Corp., is the largest supplier of internally threaded fasteners by volume to the aircraft industry. His end customers include Boeing, Airbus, Cessna, Gulfstream, Rolls Royce, Honeywell, Raytheon and many more. His cattle business, Rogue River Ranch, has been a leader in various breeds of both purebred and commercial animals for decades. His boat, "Sorcery," has one of the very best winning records of all the international racing yachts today. He was a dynamic personality whose generosity and integrity knew no bounds.

Jake's life will be celebrated at a memorial service in his honor at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at The Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park, Calif.

Burial will follow at Pierce Bros. Valley Oak Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association at https://donate.americanheart.org/ecommerce/aha/aha_index.jsp.

We want to express our gratitude to all of our friends and family for their understanding, care and support.

Uncle Jake taught me everything their was to know about the stars in the sky when we went on trips to Lake Powell. I am truly sorry that time went by so fast as it does and I did not have the chance to see or tell him thank you for his impact on my life.

My grandpa was a great man. When chips were down for many, he would always step up to the plate whether you were family or friends. I aspire if only to touch the greatness that he left behind.
