John Patton Smalley

TUSCALOOSA – John Patton Smalley, age 83, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died September 9, 2017, at home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with John Pritchett officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clyde Smalley and Jewell Ray Smalley; his grandson, Heath Smalley; his son, Johnny Wayne Smalley; and his daughter, Diranda Patrice Smalley Williams.
Survivors include his wife, "Dean" Hallman Smalley of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Linda Smalley Ryan (Jim) of Ralph, Ala.; brothers, Clyde Ray Smalley of Duncanville, Ala. and Jerry Smalley (Betty) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Clay White (Robin), Brandi White McDonald (Greg), Jonathon Smalley (Elise), Brittany Williams, Angel Williams Oswalt (Josh) and Jimbo Williams (Claudia Ann); and great-grandchildren, Logan Crim, Luke White, Blane McDonald, Rylan Smalley, Dean White, Vivi McDonald and Wallace Williams; all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
John retired from the University of Alabama Athletic Department. He loved Alabama football! He was a member of Northridge Baptist Church for 25 years. Those who knew John knew he loved God and his family immensely. He was blessed with a tender-hearted, generous spirit and never hesitated to help others. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To know John was to love him. Although his passing will leave a tremendous void for his family and friends, we rejoice in knowing he is with his Savior and free from the devastations of cancer.
