Marzelle Summerlin Obituary

NORTHPORT - In loving memory of Marzelle "Mark" Eugene Summerlin II, age 68, of Northport, Ala, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in DCH Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
He was a loving dad, grandad and loyal husband for over 46 years. He made a career for himself in the car business, buying his very first car at the age of 12.
He loved to cook for people, feeding stray animals and rescuing stranded motorists. He always smelled like cologne, black coffee and a cigar. His big heart far exceeded his gruff personality. To know him, was to love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marzelle and Sarah Mack Summerlin and his brother, Van Summerlin.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Summerlin; his two sons, Tripp Summerlin (Bret) and Tanner Summerlin (Leigh); three loving grandchildren; Sawyer, Adelaide and Finn Summerlin; sister, Sheila Pate; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider. His graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018, at Jennings Chapel United Methodist Church at 4001 70th Ave., Northport, AL. The family will receive visitors at the site 30 minutes prior to the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Tim Arendale, Todd Arendale, Paul Cioccia and Cody Summerlin.
Honorary pallbearers include J.W Arendale, Gary Vineyard, Richard Shirley, Stanley Fowler, Carl Bevill, Phillip Oswalt, Jim Woods and Jasper Auto Sales, Ken McFarland and City Auto Sales, Mike and Paul Dunn, Tuscaloosa Tractor and Townsend Automotive Group.
In lieu of flowers, buy somebody lunch in honor of Mark.

There was never a dull moment when Mark came to see us, we really enjoyed his visits! He would bring us lunch, talk about his pets, his wife, (Angie), his kids and grandkids and always give the guys a hard time. He will truly be missed.

I knew Mark threw car business, was a good man and the only man I ever knew who had one of the 1st cell phone made and it still worked, Lol! He was a helping hand, had a pick you up smile, and a passion for auto industry. May God be with you all and I pray Gods peace be with you all.

So sorry for your loss. I knew Mark when he worked at his dad's fruit stand on 15th street. Then in 1970, Mark and I spent 6 months together for Army Basic Training at Ft Polk, Louisiana. Fond memory was Mark needing several dollars in quarters to use pay phone every night to call Angie (girlfriend then) and talk forever. I later moved away and loss track of Mark, but knew he was selling cars somewhere-he was a natural salesman-guess he learned that at the fruit stand with his dad. Thoughts and prayers are with family.

Marzelle was my brother's best friend when they were young. Oh the stories I could tell about him and Scott! So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you. Debbie Lynn Long
