Ruby Tillery Obituary

TUSCALOOSA Dr. Ruby Wilson Tillery, age 84, of Tuscaloosa, died Jan. 10, 2007 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007 at Forest Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. James Haskins and Rev. David Thompson officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carlyle Tillery, her parents, P.D. and Era Hodges Wilson, and a sister, Grace Wilson Hancock.

She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Tillery Caldwell of Warner Robins, Ga.; one son, Edward William Tillery (Marilyn) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandsons, Benjamin Andrew and Jesse Thomas Caldwell; one granddaughter, Carolyn Suzanne Tillery; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Tillery was born in Woodville, Alabama on November 23, 1922. She held both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Alabama and the Charity Hospital of Louisiana School of Nursing in New Orleans, La. She was associated with the Druid City Hospital in both nursing service and nursing education from 1947 to 1961 and with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Nursing from 1961 to 1982.

Honorary pallbearers are Aldersgate Sunday School Class at Forest Lake United Methodist, all former students and professional associates, Edward May, Dr. Temd Deason, Dr. Janice Noble, and Dr. and Mrs. Albert Stephens.
