Bernard Norbert "Bernie" PITZL

1945 - 2022

Age 77 Of Lake City, SD and Inver Grove Heights, MN passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2022 with family by his side. Bernie was born in Webster, SD to Bernard "Bernie" and Priscilla Pitzl on May 23, 1945. Bernie grew up on the family farm west of Eden, SD. While attending school, he worked on the farm with his dad. After high school he served in the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. In 1964 he moved to St. Paul, MN where he started his career in the office furniture industry and eventually established his own office furniture and moving company. On June 24, 1967 he married his teenage love Evonne "Bonnie" 'nee Block' Pitzl. Retiring early he spent most of time on his ranch farm near Fort Sisseton, SD. Bernie took great pride and joy in restoring the historic farm site over the past 20 plus years. He had a passion for the outdoors, wildlife and the history of Eden, Fort Sisseton, and the Coteau des Prairies Glacial Lakes Region of SD. He enjoyed his motorcycle, horses and travel. His greatest passion was for people and life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed most spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Evonne and children Bradley, Jason (Sarah), Lezlie (Todd) Wallin; grandchildren Hannah (Nathan), Jack, Grace, Nick (Amanda), Drew, Natalie; great grandchildren Cam and Emma; siblings Donald (Carol) Pitzl, Delores Gulbranson, Genevieve (Bruce) Earney, Patricia (Ron) Bien and Dale (Julie) Pitzl and his brother-in-law Lanny Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Priscilla Pitzl and sister Diane (Lanny) Thompson. The funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Parish at 114 South 2nd Street, Eden, South Dakota at 11.00 am on Saturday, August 6. Visitation will be at 10.00 am prior to service.
