Brian ELDRIDGE Obituary

May 1947 - July 2023 Brian was a quiet shy boy and man. He was bullied as a child and teenager because of his shyness and vulnerability. As an adult he didn't fit in. He never learned to use a computer or a cell phone, which kept him from applying for most jobs. He worked and supported himself through paper routes, aluminum can recycling and janitorial work. He was exploited by employers. His last job, was cleaning a bingo hall at midnight for $10 per hour 7 nights a week 364 days a year with just less than the minimum weekly hours to have any rights or benefits. His employer fired him on Christmas Eve with no notice. He had worked there for over 15 years. He had no friends or family who kept up with him. He was quiet, smart, generous and lonely. When found in his apartment he had been dead at least 4 days. I'll miss him.

I read this obituary and thought of the song "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles. We need more honest obits like this telling the true story of peoples lives and hardships. It validates their struggles and makes them real. RIP Brian, your story has touched so many people. I hope you find peace and happiness in the afterlife, and are surrounded by the love and support you did not receive in this life.

Rest In Everlasting Peace My Brother In God.

I feel your loneliness deeply. Wish I knew you to let you know you know you were not alone.

My breathing is labored after reading your orbituary...no one should feel or be so isolated and lonely in this life as you were, many are...I am one.

I hope to meet you in Heaven sometime!

The one good thing out of Brian´s story is his brother that shared it. Just when I think I´ve had it so rough, I will remember Brian & the countless others that live similarly and we´re too wrapped up in superficiality to stop and recognize it. Thank you Brian for being in this world and making a difference even after the world seemed to forget you were there. May the afterlife honor you when the earthly one didn´t. In your loving memory.

I worked w/ a gentleman, Ronald S. to be exact, when I was just getting into my 1st job. He was a "dish dog" just like me but took that job serious in ways I'd never believe a grown man (50+) could. I worked my way up to head cook and he still just wanted his spot dish Dawgin and nothin more. Used to ride his bike in @ 4am or walk if the weather was good. Never asked for a thing. Never wanted handouts. Nothing. I offered him rides to & from work all of the time and it was rare for him to accept, even in the worst of MI winters. He would just say "the god I believe in, gave me these times to walk in conditions, where those that can't walk, wish they could".
He was an odd duck. He lived in a rundown hermit hole that none of us could imagine but he was happy there... It was HIS home and he was living the way he wanted.
Godspeed to ALL of the "Brian's" and "Ron's" of the world who never quite fit in but made lasting impressions on those who met them.
RIP buddy
