Carl BROWN Obituary

Born Carl Frederick Brown on August 25, 1959 in Greenville, MS to Ophelia Brown (Scarver) and William Brown Jr. Carl graduated from Paul Quinn College in Dallas, TX with a major in History. He finished one year of Law School before returning home to care for his mother. Carl served in the U.S Army up until a Staff Sergeant thought he could push Carl around. While in St. Paul, Carl served in the City Attorney and Human Rights Office under Tyrone Terrill before pursuing a coaching career in High School Football. Later, known best as Coach Brown, Carl served the St. Paul Central football community for over 7 years, a part of seven City Conference Championships and watched countless youth train their way into college athletics and academic scholarship. In his later years Carl served his community at Piercing Faith Church where he was the self-proclaimed voice of reason, while simultaneously serving as the local radical. Carl's impact in the community can be felt most by the young men he would mentor, teach, and share life lessons with in the weight room across the Twin Cities, and in High School locker rooms up until his death on February 21, 2022. Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father Ophelia Brown and William Brown Jr., and his brother, James Brown. He leaves behind five children, Riva Lane, Camesha Moody-Walter, Ashley Robinson, Chaz Brown and Carl Koenig; eight siblings, William Leon Brown III, Anthony Brown, Antonio Brown, Darryl Watts, Rhonda Magee, Leroy Brown, Deon Green and Willis Sygwart; Uncle Leon Wright, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, associates, teammates and co-workers. Service Saturday, March 12, 2022. Visitation 11:00 a.m. followed by Funeral at 1:00 p.m. at Progressive Baptist Church, 1505 Burns Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55106.

To the family,
Carl will be missed by all he came in contact with. He was a dear friend to me and always put a smile on my face whenever in his presence. I recall his first sermon at Pilgrim Baptist Church under Rev. Earl Miller. My sincere condolences to the family.

To Mr. Brown's Family, We are so sorry for your loss. The obituary was excellent. It reflected his talents, values and good life so well. Mrs. Brown, I believe we've met a few times at Ms. Nora T's. home on Lake Harriet. It was our Honor to meet, and visit with you and Mr. Brown on those occasions. With Sympathy and Compassion, Patti (& Bill).
