Daniel SCHNEIDER Obituary

Age 59, died at his home in Melrose Park, IL on March 7, 2015. Preceded in death by his parents, Urban and Alice, and sister, Mary Alice (David, Rubenzer). Survivors include brothers Bill (Dorothy), Pete (Marilyn), Tom, Mike (Brenda) and Chris (Lisa), and sister Kay Ann (Jack, Naylor). Dan was born on June 5, 1955 at Saint Paul, MN, the sixth of eight children, to Urban Paul and Alice Marie (Hare) Schneider; he was a special gift to them, having been born on their 10th anniversary. He attended grade school at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Saint Paul, and graduated from Rosemount Sr. High in 1973. After a tour of duty in the the Air Force, Dan moved from Minnesota to live in Melrose Park IL, and worked for the Chicago North Western Railroad as a mechanic, in the Proviso Yards. Dan enjoyed traveling and video-taping his many travel experiences; he also loved cooking and trying new foods. Like a big, lovable St. Bernard, Dan made friends with ease, his gentle personality and warm, smiling face made him hard to resist. Rest well brother; we love you and will remember you always. Dan's cremated remains will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, June 5, 2015, at 11:45 am, followed by a sharing of memories and fellowship.

I'm so sorry I missed being there for Danny on June 5th..I've had allot of health issues lately myself, and it's made it difficult to keep track of things..Danny was one of the nicest boys that I went to Kindergarten and gradeschool with..I was so happy to see him at our 10 year class reunion, but then we didn't see him again, at any of the following reunions..We were all talking about Danny and wondering how he was doing at the last few get togethers we had recently..I have photos of Danny I took at our 10 year reunion, if anyone in the family would like a copy, you can call me at 651-329-2736 and I will be happy to send them to you..I remember clearly that Ms Boge our favorite teacher of all times from IHM was concerned and worried that we hadn't heard from Danny in a while and wanted to know if anyone had heard from him. The fact that we had 40 plus kids in each 5th grade class, and he was the only one she was wondering about not hearing from, shows how special Danny was to all of us.. So sorry that I won't get to see Danny at the next reunion..I agree with Kathy Gannaway and sally simmer that Danny was a very special soul, and someone that touched all of us with good memories, from the first day we met him..I grew up on Portland one block over from Danny, and walked to kindergarten with Danny, Sally and Kathy, Don and allot of other kids in the neighborhood who all were In class and pals of Danny, and all loved his awesome sweet shy personality

I'm so sorry for your loss. I grew up down the block from the Schneider's and went to school with Dan. He was always a gentle soul.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you grieve the untimely passing of your brother Danny. I have a fond memory of sometimes being selected to wake him from his nap at kindergarten. He was like a sleepy little bear cub back then. :)
Warm regards,
Sally (Simmer) Coler
