Frattalone family:
We were saddened to learn about Dave's passing recently and are sorry we could not attend the funeral. We knew Dave from the Farmers' Market, as my dad, Frank W. Heintz Sr. also had a farm and was at the Market every weekend. Dave was always there w/a grin and hello to us. I was just a youngster when I went, but he was always so nice to talk to..I never forgot his big smile, big hugs and sense of humor!
God Bless You Dave and your family.

Dave was such a great guy. I worked for him when I was a young man. It was hard work, but it taught me how to work, and how to have fun working. What a loss for his family. I know the memories will get you all though. With Gods blessings. Butch and Elaine Coenen

I'm sorry about your loss. Dave was a great man with a big heart. When I was a little kid, my parents would stop at Dave's place from veggies. I would listen to them talk. Dave would always talk about his family with so much love all the time. My thougths and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

To the Frattalone Family,
Many thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. Dave was a wonderful man and mentor. To this day I can remember the life lessons along with the work ethic I learned from him while working on the farm in L.C.

I am so lucky and blessed to have had him for my Grandpa! He taught me so many things...how to properly water geraniums, sort pickles, pick the perfect pepper and make a fried egg sandwich! I know that he was proud of me and the way I could hollar for a dollar and sell his produce at the farmers market. He would always let me take a break to visit the other farmers as long as I brought him back a doughtnut! Grandpa was an amazing man with a generous heart and loving soul and I have peace remembering so many special days with him. I know now that he is feeling good and happy to be reunited with mom and grandma. I will forever love you and remember you gramps!!

Sorry to hear about your loss to a wonderful guy who will be deeply missed. Dave was a great guy he was my first boss - he instilled into me great work ethics - you need to work hard to get the things you want. He always gave a kid a break. He had many stories to tell. Just an enjoyable guy.

A tribute to Dave Frattalone
Born of humble, hard working immigrant parents Angelina & Pasquale, Dave followed in the footsteps of his truck farming father. He loved and worked the earth with his siblings Suzie, Congie, Mike, Marie, Gracie, and Angie. As a young man of aging parents, he eventually took over the family farm in Little Canada and became one of the best growers on the St. Paul Market, in fact, his legacy as the King of the Market will long be remembered. In 1942 he married Jean Auge and began his own family. She bore him two sons Pasquale and David G. before sadly passing away at the young age of 21. Three years would pass before his brother-in-law Joe Vitale would introduce him to his widowed cousin Pitrina DiMaggio of Palermo, Sicily who had an eight-year-old daughter Caroline. They married, and with a new partner in life he continued to till the soil and grow his family. Together they had a son Frank, and two daughters Angela and Anna Marie. He moved his growing family to a beautiful truck farm with greenhouses, rolling hills and ponds in Roseville. Pitrina’s sisters Caterina, Teresa and Anna would follow her and with their families Dave enjoyed and embraced his family heritage, customs, language and most importantly, the food. Pitrina knew the way to his heart and a big heart it was as he gave unconditionally of himself to his family, extended family and the community. Working the Little Canada and the Roseville farms made him a sought after plant and fresh vegetable provider for the entire St. Paul area as well as a mentor and teacher to countless young people. As a charter member of the Little Canada Fire Department, he volunteered his services for over 20 years. His children grew up and had families of their own giving him 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. His family was everything to him. He showered his grandchildren and great grandchildren with big warm smiles and bushels of love. He and Pitrina traveled to Italy on several occasions to visit relatives and the land their parents called home. In 1987 sadness would nearly overcome them at the loss of their daughter Caroline. In his later years he would lose his beloved wife of 42 years but not his love of his family and his home, his castle. Coming home up to four times a week during a long illness with diabetes and kidney failure was what he lived for. His home was his castle and he reigned supreme there. We’ll miss Dave, his big warm smile, the twinkle in his eye, the way he touched us, and his great love for life.

,Kevin and I were so sorry to hear about Uncle Dave. We have so many fond memories of him...One really stands out. When my Mom(Susie) was still alive, Uncle Dave would stop at her house for lunch on Tuesdays. She lived right across from the Har Mar farmer's market. Mom would spend the whole week planning and preparing her menu. She always topped the meal off with apple crisp. They were so cute together. We are so sorry for the suffering he went through, but are confident he is at peace now.
Our deepest sympathy
love....

I remember Dave from when I was little. I lived down the street from his greenhouse in Little Canada. I was always in awe of this big happy friendly man. He told me I could call him "Grandpa Dave". He was such a wonderful man. Going to the St. Paul farmers market was such a treat; to see him and visit him there. I have often thought of him in recent years and wondered how he was. He will be very missed. Now he can be with his wife again, I know he missed her very much after she passed.
