I am still finding it hard to believe that this wonderful man is gone. I had the opportunity to know Dave from my years at Parks and the wonderful surprise of continuing to work with him after I transferred to SPRWS. It mattered to him that all the parks and golf courses be ready before the season started. Not for his own sake, because he knew that the people of Saint Paul deserved nothing less. I admired that greatly. I admired him.

To Candice and family Aunt Fran, Judy, Rick, JIm and Karen: I still don't think I have gotten over the shock of the passing of David. I am so sorry for your loss. I have been looking at all the great pictures and reading all the wonderful things that all your friends have written about David. I wish I had known him as an adult better than I did. He was so nice to my husband when Don was working in Saint Paul for a couple of weeks long ago. He took Don fishing and you both had him over for dinner. I wish I could have come this weekend, but things did not work out that way. YOu all are in my thoughts and prayers.
I love you all and am sure you have so many good memories of David to help you through this sad time. Hold on to one another.

Dave will be missed by so many people. I worked with and for Dave at the St. Paul Parks and Rec Dept. and he taught me so much. Any questions were answered seriously and with a kind touch. Saints games with Dave were a treat.

Candy, My heart aches that you lost your soul mate so suddenly, sometimes we just don't understand why so soon.
Nicole, I know you were your daddy's "little girl', I seen the love he had for you the day he walked you down the isle. I can still remember how badly Dave wanted to be a grandpa, and how proud he was when you and Joe finally gave him his wish.
Bryan, I'm sorry your dad will never get to meet your unborn child, you are so much like him in so many ways, you will pass on so much to your son, teaching him to hunt, fish, throw a football and take him to Saints games too. Make sure you take care of your mom your dad would want you to!
Owen, My sweet, smart bright eyes nephew I see a lot of your grandpa in your eyes, your such a lucky little boy to have had such a special relationship with grandpa, you meant the world to him. You might not get to see him everyday but remember buddy, you have a big strong guardian angel who will always be by your side.
Joey, I don't tell you everyday but I love you and I'm here for you if you need to talk, take care of Nicole & Owen, they need you.
Dave, Your family loves you so very much, wrap your wings around them and help comfort them though these challenging times. You will be very missed.

Hugs & Kisses to all,
Michelle Tacheny & Family

Dave taught me a lot. How to love, how to live, and how to laugh. He's made a lasting impact on my entire family, and he will be remembered as someone who was always laughing, quick with an odd story, and was always willing of offer advice. I will miss his laugh, and cherish our memories together. Until next time, cant wait to hear you say "Hey, Al!" one more time.

Dear Candy and Family,

I'm still in shock that Dave passed away so suddenly and at such a young age. But by reading all of the heartfelt messages in this guest book, he certainly made a difference for others just by being him. As you know,Doug passed away Dec. 25, 2010. When he was still alive he started the day at the computer checking the news and his E-mail. He counted on and loved getting "lots" of jokes from Dave almost everyday. I know on April 9th, Doug welcomed him saying "I've been waiting for you friend. I haven't read a good joke since I've been here!' It took awhile for me to decide what flowers to send that best described Dave. The only thing to choose is patriotic. I think he was the best example of the true American!! What a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, friend, etc. he was. You are going through a very sad time but your memories will last forever and help you in your grief.

Love, Your Cousin Dianne

I had known Dave for my entire career as a zoo keeper at como zoo. I am in tears. Dave was someone I ALWAYS enjoyed speaking with. Secretly ......... I think there were a number of times I could have cleared a clogged drain myself because he had previously showed me how, but simply loved knowing he was on duty to come and explain the cost effectiveness of removing straw from exhibits at Como Zoo. "You guys could save me a lot of trouble" he'd always say. I never felt better being reprimanded. It was like he was sargent Slater and I was Gomer Pyle, for those who remember the T.V. sitcom. What a lovable guy. St. Paul has lost a most dedicated and talented employee. God bless you Dave and my heart felt condolences to your entire family.

Jeffrey Tressler,Como Zoo Keeper, Retired.

Dave was my best friend growing up, and I have many good memories of him. Dave riding in Akron Ohio at the soap box derby national compitition. Building forts in the woods. Traveling the US when old enough to drive. Skiing, camping, fishing. Dave, you were too young to go. Our family will miss you. My condolences to Candy and the kids, Fran, Jim, Rick, Karen and Judy.

Dave rode into our lives on his bike ride through Mayo Park, in Rochester. A thin young handsome 16 year old. We've stayed in contact through the years, marriages, children, life in general.Dave was a great friend. He will be missed. It is not what we have lost, but, what we had. Thanks for your friendship!

Dave was not only a great guy, but an even better friend. He touched so many lives it is hard to believe that his legacy cannot live on in those that knew him. I just feel blessed that I was able to share part of of our time here on earth together, both at parks and the Saints games, and I look forward to when we meet again in Heaven.

April 11, 2012

Kris and I were saddened to hear the news of Dave's passing. We are grateful for all of the good times spent tailgating at St. Paul Saints games. We will miss Dave's ability to fix or, rig up just about anything in the Midway Stadium parking lot, with duct tape and bungee cords. The man once constructed a rain gutter out of duct tape, between two EZ-Up canopies, so that the rain wouldn't drip on everyone as we passed between the two canopies, while trying to stay dry during a playoff game rain delay. We will miss Dave's laughter, warm hugs and firm handshakes. We will miss planting our feet together in the ice water-filled kiddie pool, on unbearably hot summer days on the Midway parking lot asphalt. We'll miss the road trips and NTN trivia at BW3. However, we will cherish the memories and be grateful that we knew Dave and were able to make those memories. No matter what it was, it was always a fun time. We'll miss you, Dave! Our thoughts and hearts go out to Candy. We are there for you if you need anything at all.

Dave was one of the first people I met when I came to work at the St. Paul Saints and I spent many wonderful hours with him and the other tailgaters. Dave was always very generous; sharing whatever he had with whoever would ask.

Without Dave, the parking lot at Midway Stadium will never feel quite the same. I will miss him greatly, but will always think of him and smile.
