Working alongside Captain Dave Stavrum for many years, I quickly learned that his gruff exterior masked a kind soul. Our daily meetings were filled with efficient discussions peppered with humorous insults, a unique camaraderie that blossomed over time. I grew fond of him, as his tough demeanor was paired with a genuine care for those around him. Dave taught me that friendships can thrive even amidst playful banter. Fair winds, Captain; your spirit will always remain anchored in our hearts.

Dave and I go way back,1974 approximately, he transfered from St. Cloud, I transfered from Stillwater.
We got positions when Lino was transferring from a juvenile detention center to at that time a minimum security center.
We first met in training for new CO'S at Lino..we had rotating shifts, every two weeks Days Evening's and Nights.
I was assigned to Carver cottage and Dave got to be the CC2 on the Roving Patrol, checking on staff in all the Cottages. He was promoted to CC3 I was Promoted to CC2. Over the years he was promoted to shift luie, the latter to shift Captian.
I worked with and for Dave for approximately 13 years at lino. I will always remember this saying " We don't have a problem, we only have solutions". I was promoted to CC3 working the Bubble, then in 1987 I accepted a position as a AFSCME Council 6 Uniin Business Agent, and had a number of opportunities to visit with Dave.
Until today 3/1/25 I had No Idea he had passed
I apologize to the family and am sorry for your loss.
