Donald CHAPMAN Obituary

Age 93 Of North Oaks and Shoreview Died December 5, 2018 at Alden Courts of Huntley, a nursing home in Huntley, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine F. Chapman, parents William and Agnes Chapman and sister Marilyn WIlson. He is survived by sons Donald, Jr. (Judith) and Kim Thomas (Karen) and grandchildren Derek, Kelly and Thomas; sister Audrey Douglas and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Don grew up in Isle, MN, also spending part of his early years in St. Cloud and graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School in 1943. He immediately enlisted in the Navy Air Corps, received his wings and was commissioned an ensign. After service in the Navy during WWII, he attended the U of MN and graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in 1950. He lived in North Oaks for 40 years and worked for several architect/ engineering firms in the Twin Cities. He was responsible for the structural design of numerous buildings around the U.S. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in 20 states and was certified by the National Council of Engineering Examiners. In his free time, he was an avid sportsman, having hunted and fished in several countries around the world. In retirement, he was very active and received a 20 years volunteer award at the Science Museum of MN, and participated in the construction of numerous homes thru Habitat for Humanity. Burial of both Don and his wife Lorraine will be at the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery, Stanchfield, MN, in a plot adjacent to his parents and sister, following a memorial service at Scandia Shores Senior Living in Shoreview. Both events will be held this spring, date TBD. Memorials preferred to the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.
