Elizabeth Unnerstall Obituary

Elizabeth E. "Betty" Unnerstall, 79, Villa Ridge, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2012, at her home after a long illness.

She was born May 24, 1933, to Charles and Katherine Brady, St. Louis.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Leonard Unnerstall at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, St. Louis, May 2, 1955. The couple made their home of 59 years in Villa Ridge where Elizabeth was the accountant for the family business, Unnerstall Contracting and Equipment Company.

She was a member of St. Mary of Perpetual Help Parish, Villa Ridge; the Rubinstein Music Club, St. Louis; and Republican Women's Club, Union. Elizabeth was very active in Franklin County, supporting conservative candidates, pro-life and pro-family issues.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Brady and Katherine Stanek; stepfather, Ray Stanek; stepmother, Margaret Schlereth; one brother, James Brady; and two sisters, Kathy Frink and Ilene De-Rousse.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Leonard Unnerstall, Villa Ridge; six children, Deborah Girdner and husband Kim, Stephen Unnerstall, Cynthia Duncan and husband Steve, all of Villa Ridge, Christopher Unnerstall and wife Lynette, Eureka, Jeffrey Unnerstall and wife Cindy, Orlando, Fla., and Teresa Schaffner, Prairie Du Rocher, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, Brian Unnerstall, James Girdner, Nick Girdner, David Schaffner, Andrew Duncan, Sabrina Hoeper, Amelia Moll, Stefanie Buscher, Samantha Crooks, Dustin Unnerstall, Meghan Girdner, Mitchell Duncan, Vince Unnerstall, Christopher Unnerstall, Tiffany Unnerstall, Cameron Unnerstall, Alley Unnerstall, Elizabeth and Erica Schaffner; 13 great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Marge Imo and husband Ed and Charlene Cassidy and husband Ray; two half brothers, David Stanek and wife Barbara and George Stanek and wife Brenda; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Rodger Fleming officiating.

Elizabeth was laid to rest in the parish cemetery.

Memorials to the American Heart or Lung associations are preferred.

The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
