To: Nancy, Lisa, Ruth, Ellen and Sally: I was so sorry to hear of Ernie's passing. I remember him as a wonderful man. He was so willing to share stories of the Bormann family history. Ernie and Dad were cousins as their fathers (our grandfathers, Ernie Sr. and Fred) were brothers. You may not remember that I babysat with you girls when I was a freshman at the U while Ernie and Nancy were gone for a few days to a conference. I recall having dinner a few times with your family and enjoyed the lively conversation, jokes and puns. You are all in my thoughts at this sad time.

Dear Nancy and family, I am so sad to learn of the passing of your husband and father. He was deeply
admired and respected by my husband, Wayne. Ernie took Wayne under his wing & guided him through his PhD program. Wayne always gave him the highest praise for his friendship & guidance. May the Lord give you all peace and comfort at this most difficult time.

To all the Bormanns: I was so sad to learn of Ernie's passing and extend my love and sympathy to all of you. From my last conversation with Ernie, it seemed his kindness, intellect and passion transcended the disease that afflicted him. Nancy: You and Ernie set an example to which many continue to aspire.

Dear Nancy and the entire Bormann family: The announcement of the passing of the fine man I knew as "Ernie" Bormann brought a flood of memories over me. I was not one of Ernie's graduate students at the University of Minnesota (in fact, I was not even a graduate student at Minnesota) but as with so many rhetorical scholars from younger generations, he was one of my most influential teachers. I still treasure the kindness and generosity he showed me as I pursued my research and writing on American political rhetoric. The academic field of communication is richer because of Ernie Bormann. And so am I. Sincerely, Kurt Ritter, Texas A&M University.
