Fred Bame Obituary

Bame, Fred Harold Age 71 of Lake Minnetonka passed away Sunday September 9, 2007. Survived by wife JoAnna Bame; children Wendie (George) Riggs, Merritt (Daryl) Geyen, Stacey Bame, Christian (Marna) Bame, Kevin (Veneise) Bame, grandchildren Christopher and Nathan (Jamie) Geyen, Lucas, Alicia, Marissa, Natasha, Nikolaos, Aaron and Dominik Bame: stepchildren George McCall, Dale McCall, Jeff (Tracy) McCall, Mary (Tony) Hinton, Brian (Martha) McCall, grandchildren Casey, Taylor, Tyler, Garret, Miles, Joshua and Elizabeth McCall, Carl and Michael Hinton; brother Bill (Janet) Bame, sister Sandra (David) Sonderegger. Nephews and nieces Michael, Stephanie, Kirsten, Peter, Fred and Errol, along with very special friends Bob Montavon and Jerry McDonald and many other relatives and dear friends. Preceded in death by parents Harold and Minnie Bame, Marilyn (Nielsen) Bame his high school sweetheart and mother of his five children. Also preceded in death by his stepson Mark McCall. Fred was born in Minneapolis, MN, and attended Southwest High School. His 40 year oil business career started as a truck driver and ended as the proprietor and host of Hook 'N Horn Fishing Camp in Ontario, Canada. He owned Gopher Oil Company, a cornerstone company in the midwest. During his life he developed many other companies and supported each of his five children in their own business ventures. In addition to his busy work schedule he found time to belong to numerous trade associations. His civic volunteerism included Mound school board member, Trustee of Linden Hills Congregational Church, Kiwanis Club, Mpls. Chamber of Commerce, Courage Center, Mound Westonka AFS, Hockey Booster, YMCA sustaining member, Christian Children Fund, Inc, Parent president of Mound Westonka popsingers, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and a member of Living Word Christian Center. Fred passed away with incredible suddenness due to a massive heart attack. This happened Sunday following church service. In our current culture of self-service and immediate gratification stood a gem and giant of a man who aligned his life with the Word of God. Full of forgiveness and mercy, completely unselfish with his time, talent and treasure, he was a light to everyone he met and a breath of fresh air in a world where it's sometimes hard to breathe. Fred always had time for attending to the needs of others, never putting himself first—a pillar of strength devoted to our beloved young and old. A celebration of Fred's life will be held at 4PM Monday, September 17 at the LAFAYETTE CLUB, Minnetonka Beach, Minnesota. Visitation one hour prior to service, shore lunch following service. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to support the Fred H. Bame Foundation, focusing on the needs of our elderly and less fortunate. (Fred H. Bame Foundation – 900 Mendelssohn Ave. N. Golden Valley, MN 55427). May God bless you Dad. We love you!

Dear JoAnna,

It's with great saddness that I just received the news that your beloved Fred passed away suddenly. As I am sure you are in shock take some comfort in knowing that he touched so many peoples lives.

I dont know if he even realized all the times that he made "us" the old Excelsior Park Tavern wait staff laugh. We all had our own Fred Bame stories that we will cherish forever. He was a one of a kind. That was one of the best times in my life working on that deck (in the dirt) and Fred and your presence made it so memorable.

Since the last time I saw you both at Circ de Sole in Minneapolis I moved to Ontario and bought a fishig boat. I will always think of Fred now when I am reeling in a BIG one on Lake Ontario.

Take care of yourself and know that people all over the world are praying for your great loss at this time. He was a great man that will be missed!

Take care,

Heather Groetsch and Family

Wendie ~
I'm not sure that you will remember me(Sue) but we met at an airport when a friend of mine (you will remember her as "my linebacker friend" as you liked to call her) and myself were flying back from watching baseball games in Texas and Boston.... we talked at Twins games after that and I was even at your house once shortly after that. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad...I recognized your last name and wondered if it was your Dad and after seeing the obituary I realized it was your Dad.
May God Bless You and your family in this sad time.

Fred will be sorely missed by so many. He was generous and loving, and lived life with a passion and humor that was completely contagious. Underneath his sometimes gruff veneer was a true gem of a man that lived his life in the path his parents had forged - joy and satisfaction from hard work, unwaivering faith and a genuine desire to help those less fortunate. God bless you, Fred, for the lasting positive difference you made in the lives of so many.
