Gene Sack Obituary

Sack - Gene passed away February 21, 2002 at the age of 77 years. Born and raised in St. Paul, MN. He was a well-known hockey and baseball player throughout his life. He graduated from Cretin High School, St. Thomas College, and also received his master's degree from Winona State College. Gene served with the Marine Corps during WWII. He was a turret gunner in a TMB Avenger, serving in the Pacific Arena. Before retiring, in 1985, Gene taught and coached in high schools in Baudette, Thief River Falls, and Rochester, MN. He was also at Benilde, in St. Louis Park, MN. Gene was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the VFW. He taught religious education to students for many years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, three daughters, Leah, (Terry), Paula, (Mike) and Ann, (Paul), six grand children, one great grand child, and three brothers, Jim, Bob, and Dick. His parents preceded him in death. There will be a Memorial service and Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Tuesday February 26th 2002 at 9.30am. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to: Rochester Youth Hockey Association, P.O. Box 237, Rochester, MN 55903.

My condolences to the family of Gene Sack. My husband, Ted Joyce considered him a friend and true colleague in their combined endeavors to promote hockey in the Catholic and private schools in Minnesota. I am sorry for your loss, and may he rest in peace.

I wil miss his ever pleasnt attitude. We wee friends for all our lives.Through grade school ,high school the Marines, college and God knows how many hockey games.I cant help but tpo mention whn Fred Shero, former coach of th New York Rngers said to me "He has the ability to play in the Natiol Hockey League Goodby to a true athlete.and God bless his family
