Gene SJERVEN Obituary

Of Lake Elmo Gene was born on January 1, 1928, and passed away February 24, 2023, at the age of 95. He was a decorated Korean War veteran, serving proudly in both the Army and Navy. Gene worked at 3M for 47 years, contributing to many patents and projects that helped lead 3M in its storage disk creation and advancements. He thrived in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting deer, target shooting, archery, fishing, and boating, as well as working around his home. Gene did more after he turned 50 than most, traveling the world, exploring the BWCA, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and winter camping. He loved his family and was very proud of them, his home, and his constant companion, dog Holly. Gene is preceded in death and welcomed in heaven by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine; his son Mark Benzell, and granddaughter Sara Benzell; and his parents, Arthur and Gertrude Odegard-Sjerven. Survived by his children, Gary (Brenda) Sjerven, Mary Sjerven, Larry (Kristi) Sjerven, Gerry (Lynne) Sjerven and daughter-in-law Anne Benzell; grandchildren Michelle (Matt) Mueller, Ryan (Jennifer) Steingart, Emily Benzell, Haley and Erik Sjerven, Cason (Ashley), Soren and Amity Sjerven; great-grandchildren Carter, Brody, Conner, Addison, Samantha; Layla, Griffin, Teagan, Tierney, Stevie; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial Service for Gene and Lorraine 12pm Thursday, June 22nd at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 2499 Helen St N, North St. Paul, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Lunch to follow. Interment 1:30pm Thursday, July 6th at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
