It has been 13 years since coach V. passed away. I ran into him at Dick's Sporting goods in Woodbury in 2011 and he had no idea who I was. His wife, Dorothy was there and kept telling him: "George, it's Jon Campbell! He still had no clue. We walked outside and conversed about his time at the baseball coach and how Coach Strelow "begged" him to be the coach for our senior year. I tried to convince him that we needed him to be our coach for our final year in baseball but he was so kind and acquiesced and allowed Strewlow to be our coach. As I approach my 80's he is the one person who I would really like to connect with. We had a very special bond where I could tell him anything and he easily understood. As I approach the end of my life, it is HE who I would most like to visit. If only I knew that 10-15 years ago!

Mr. V was a martinet in typing class with his staccato floor tapping, but it has served me well all my life in keyboarding skills. And, then, to top it off, he was a wonderful teacher and very pleasant, humorous guy. My deep condolences to his family and close friends. You must miss him extremely.

Dear Dorothy, Boys & Families,
He was my mentor, my typing and steno teacher, my school newspaper advisor, my summer softball coach, and my friend. As with the many other MHS students who signed this guestbook before me, he was incredibly generous to me, even securing a scholarship for me along with a part-time job at Winona State, his alma mater. I also loved babysitting for Mike and Patric during my high school years! Mr. V changed my life in many ways, and his sense of humor has also provided me with many wonderful memories over the years. I'm heartsick to hear of his passing, and Dave and I send sincere condolences to all of your family.

We fondly remember making the Halloween rounds at Auntie Dee and Uncle Kenny's house with the kids dressed in their trick or treat outfits. Dorothy and George were always there, sitting around the table, admiring the disguises with a wink and a smile. That holiday served as our introduction to the Von Drasheks. George was such an impressive individual -- tall and handsome -- and so very likeable. We would go on to see Dorothy and George at St. Mary's over the years. Despite his illness in later years, George was ready with a smile and a greeting. We are so sorry for his passing. May God comfort you and your family, Dorothy and keep George in His heavenly embrace.

I will always remember my introduction to typing due to Mr. VonDashek's great attention getting methods and keeping us on track. The skill of typing has been invaluable, but even more so the life lessons he imparted. My sincere sympathy to Mrs. Von Drashek and family on your loss.

Mrs. VonDrashek & Family: My deepest sympathies for your loss. My prayers are with you. I have many great memories of being in his classes (Gen. Business, Typing, Steno I & II) plus summer softball. He tried to teach me to throw windmill style; it was many years later in amateur fastpitch that it became a reality! He would be glad to know that later in my softball career I was named a first team All American pitcher at one of the Natl. ASA tournaments. I, and a lot of my classmates thought very highly of him as a teacher and friend. He will be greatly missed.

George and Dottie were our good friends and neighbors back in the early 60's on Emerald Drive. George is famous in our family lore for having driven Valerie to the hospital when our third child was born and then having to convince the receptionist that he wasn't the father.
George was a wonderful man and a good friend. He will be missed.

He was a fine man who gave a lot to his students and much of his summers to baseball players he coached. Working for about 25 cents a hour as a coach, his generosity even extended to the occasional ride down Mahtomedi Avenue when after basketball practice it was dark and freezing cold.
May he rest in peace knowing that he helped many young people who have not forgotten.

Mr. Von Drashek was the Baseball Coach at MHS my Jr/Sr yrs. I was the team's pitcher. George, having been a pitcher himself, and I had a very special relationship. I have never forgotten what he did for me, after my senior season was over. Since he thought I had the skills to keep on pitching, he suggested that we drive over to Dick Siebert's[UofM baseball Coach] house in Edina. As a result I played freshman baseball at the U the following year. George has always held a place in my heart due to this and all the other interactions we have had. He was a very special man!!!
