Harry ARVANITIS Obituary

Beloved Brother, Uncle, Friend On December 17, 2017 Our beloved Harry unites in heaven with our parents, Nick and Frances, brother Loucas, nephew Michael and brother-in-law George. Harry is an alumnus of Cretin H.S. and the University of St. Thomas as a summa cum laude graduate. Harry served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. Harry is a renowned philatelist. Harry worked side by side with his parents Nick and Frances and brother Loucas at the historic Original Coney Island in downtown Saint Paul. God has our beautiful, loving, amazing Harry by His side. Harry is sadly missed by his surviving siblings, Georgia Ehrich, Ann Pathos, Celia (Harold) Johnson and Mary; nephews Perry, James (Sally), Peter (Ashley), Nick (Shelley); their children; and many friends. Special thanks to all at The Waters of Highland Park and Harry's doctors. A gathering to honor Harry will take place in January at the Original Coney Island and will be announced for all friends and family. Memorials preferred to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

I have two specific memories of Harry. While living in Highland Park i use to see him run by, before running was popular, in white baggy shorts, white t-shirt, black socks and black shoes. I also remember his kindly countenance at the Coney Island. He was soft spoken and gentle. I knew, however, that he cared deeply about serving his customers and helping his mother in the preparation and delivery. I miss the Coney Island still and I miss seeing Harry and all who worked there.

I remember Harry while living in Highland Park. He would run by our house, before running was popular, in white gym shorts, black shoes and black socks. I also fondly remember him at the Coney Island. He was soft spoken and very kind, attending to and helping his mother as she prepared the Coney's. He had a welcoming smile and a gentle way. George Vasiliou

The Arvanitis family had a major impact on our family when we moved to St. Paul in 1951. Mr. Arvanitis was Board President when My Dad, Fr. Joseph Vasiliou became the priest at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church. We were from Virginia and I had never seen snow. The winter of '50-'51 yielded massive quantities of snow. Until we found a home, the 5 of us lived in some of the rooms of the converted home at 1111 Summit Ave. The Arvanitis family was generous and welcoming to us. I will never forget that.
