Howard C. Eck

Eck, Howard C. - Of Longville, MN Age 48 Passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2003, after a courageous 3 year battle against kidney cancer. Howard was born Nov. 5, 1955 in Williamsport, PA to Robert and Thelma Eck. He graduated frm Muncy High School in Muncy, PA in 1973, and Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA in 1977 with a Food Service degree. In 1978, Howard earned an MA from Michigan State University in Packaging and worked for the Pillsbury Co. in Minneapolis, MN from 1978-1989. The Ecks purchased a resort in northern Minnesota and operated it for 14 years until retiring in March of 2003. Howard was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father and friend. He was active in many civic and school events including being a member of the Longville Knights of Columbus, Longville Chamber of Commerce and Longville City council. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting with his sons, and bird hunting with his dog, Duke. Howard is survived by his wife of 25 years, Phyllis; and his two sons, Nathan and Matthew. He is also survived by his mother, Thelma; sisters, Susan (Craig) Seybert and Barbara (Don) Reese; nieces, Beth and Laura Seybert; and nephews, Ryan and Derek Reese, all of Pennsdale, PA; as well as countless friends in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. Howard was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eck. We were blessed to have had him in our lives. He was a classy guy, a warrior, a wonderful, honest human being and we will miss him terribly. Special thanks to the angels from St. Joseph's Hospice in Park Rapids. Funeral Mass will be Monday, July 14, 2003, 11AM at ST. EDWARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Longville, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. A memorial service in Muncy, PA will be held later. Memorials may be sent to the Howard C. Eck Scholarship Fund, 1849 Merganser Tr. NE, Longville, MN 56655.
