Isabel Nelson Obituary

Nelson, Isabel - (Goldberg) - 95 Departed In Peace August 11th The only child of show business parents who starred in vaudeville, theater, radio, and films, Isabel traveled with them across the country and the world during her school years. After high school she ttok a job as a switchboard operator in St. Paul, where she met and married Maurice Goldberg in 1927. They raised two children, David & Sylvia, to adulthood, after which Isabel resumed her education at the U of M. At the age of 51 she received her Master's degree, then worked as clinical psychologist for many years, both for the St. Paul School system and as a private therapist. Isabel and Maury were both long time active members and officers of the St. Paul Audubon Society. Avid birdwatchers and gardeners, they transformed an ordinary city lot into a beautiful bird sanctuary. After his death in 1977 she bought a small motorhome and became a 'snowbird', summering in St. Croix Falls, WI, and wintering in Texas. In 1981 she married another snowbird, Donald Nelson, with whom she traveled extensively. They continued their seasonal migration until illness forced their retirement to a long term care facility in St. Paul, where Don preceded her in death in February of 2004. Isabel is survived by her son David Goldberg & his wife Judy; a daughter Sylvia Pentel; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
