It was wonderful working with JC the past few years. We could always count on him to work his hardest and do his best so we could provide the campers a great experience at Augsburg. He will be vastly missed by us and our staff as well. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and other co-workers.

margaret, timmy tim, sweetpea thats all jimmy could talk about the last time we spoke.you have to know how important you were to him,you were his happiness, his comfort and his hope.you should know, too, that he wasn;t shy about saying so. he was so full of love and pride in you,the ones he loved most in this world, and so excited about what was in store.he talked about timmys coming home to visit about joys getting married and how happy he and sharon were with the way life was going.i know its unspeakably hard for you that he isn;t here now to share thoses things.you three truly made him happy.

i wish,i had words to soothe your grief and heal your hearts but i can;t find any.i can only say again how sorry i am for your suffering and thank you for being who you are and for giving jimmy the life he loved. i;ll always be here for you if theres anything you want or need that i can give.love patty

My deepest sympathy to you and your family Tim. JC was so wonderful and made so many of my days at Auggie Tech brighter with his smile and laughter. Every time I needed something for the hockey team or training staff he was there to help. He has made a wonderful impact on so many young lives at the college. I am truly sorry.

"Hey G'u'rl"......"'Sup"......."Come and give me a huuuuugggg" Those are words and phrases that have and will always put a smile on my face. JC is someone I haven't been able to give a title to yet. He's the person who as a student at Augsburg I could always look to for understanding when my "city brat" mentalities and sentiments weren't jiving with my more suburban surroundings. He was one of the reasons the ice arena office became a sanctuary of sorts for myself and others. He helped keep my spirits up when the curveball of life might bring them down. And not matter what, he was always there with one of the best hugs ever created to remind me that love, kindness and friendship are unbounded and unconditional. "It's that circle-of-life thing" I can hear him reminding me. So I can't be mad or angry or even really say a complete goodbye because his spirit is something that will always be with myself and all of those he met. His lessons are things for us to continue to exmplify and pass along. JC....thank you for being a part of my life and know that you are one of the Top Ten (or-so) people of my whole life...and I will miss you. Hugs & Love Galore!!!

My deepest condolences to the entire Carey family, including Jack & Pat Jensen and their kids whom I also got to know real well while working at the arena for Jim during my college & playing days there, way back in the early 80's. He was a great guy to be around, always laughing, cracking a joke, a real kid at heart...he will be missed by many. God bless you through this most difficult time.

Sharon, Timmy, Joy, and the rest of the Family:

I received a photo of the 4 of you about a year or so ago and I remember being so moved by it. Every once an awhile I would look at it again because it was so clear what a beautiful family you had created together. My uncle was some character. He always had a way of making you laugh in any situation. You always had to laugh, even if you didn't think you should, because Jimmy's humor was more in touch with reality than most people are able to handle. It was difficult not to be touched by his charisma or feel his energy. To be in the same room with Uncle Jim was to be intrigued by his spirit. Joy, I am hoping to make it up to Minneapolis for your wedding, my mom tells me that your Dad was very happy with how happy Jamal has made you. Timmy, we only live 5 hours away now...I would love to see you. All of you are in our prayers. Love, LuShawna, Robert, Justin, and Amberlin.

Sharon, Tim & Joy,

My sincerest sympathy to you and your family. I met JC 22 years ago when I arrived on the Augsburg campus as a freshman. I immediately began refereeing senior mens hockey games with him and have continued to do so over the years. Over the past 20+ years, we skated together many times and shared many laughs. I'll miss his wit, wisdom and countless stories. Going to the Augsburg Ice Arena will never be the same.

JC was more than a neighbor, he was a great friend and a cornerstone of the neighborhood. I looked forward to seeing him everyday, talking, working on the yards, "HUD" houses, streets, and alleys with him. He always had a story and a laugh. Words cannot express how much we will miss him, however we will remember him forever and we will always be there for you. He is at peace with God.

To all the Carey Family:

I just wanted you to know that J.C. really made a big impact on my life and I'm sure he didn't even know it.

I taught skating at Augsburg for a few years and would see J.C. on a daily basis, but didn't know him at all well. In fact, I thought he was more than a little intimidating and gruff and just a puzzling person altogether.

I went through some tough times teaching at Augsburg due to those inevitable personality conflicts that you encounter at any job. In my darkest hour, J.C. really came through for me and was so caring and understanding as well as being a great manager and explaining to me my situation in business terms. He helped me see things from another perspective and to always step back from emotions and look at things from a business angle. For that I will always be grateful.

My prayers are with all of you.

To the Carey Family;

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of J.C.

I have known him since my days of skating at Augsburg while playing hockey in the Roosevelt program.

Our paths continued to cross as I used to visit the rink weekly to deliver the blades for his Zamboni.

Since I moved to California I dealt with JC in selling him two machines.

I will never forget his venture from the Forum to his hotel, God watched over him on his walk and I am sure he is doing the same now.

May God bless you all during this difficult time.

To Jim's Family,

There are so many stories, so many anecdotes, and so many memories of JC that I will cherish the rest of my life. I will always carry with me his kindness and generosity of spirit. He would do anything for a friend or someone in need. I'm very happy I was able to spend time with him just a few weeks ago just talking. We talked about the past, he talked about where he was in his life and how happy he was with his life today. He was so happy and excited for Joy and the happiness she found. That's what I want to remember about JC, he lived life and he had found peace with himself. God Bless.
