Dear Jim,
Mindy Sharp, from our high school class, emailed me with the news of Janet's passing. I fondly remember Jan from our university phys ed classes. I have another more recent (and fun) memory of the 3 of us on the dance floor a few high school reunions ago. I'm glad that we had the opportunity to sit down and have a good visit at the last reunion. Jan was a very special person. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. With warm regards,
Judy (Keys) Reid, New Zealand

Dear Jim and family, I knew Jan from our undergraduate days at the University of Nebraska. We kept in contact at Christmas for several years. I always thought of Jan as a go-getter. She was fun to be around. I was very sorry to hear the news, read in the Lincoln Journal Star. Please accept my sincere sympathy and know that I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Molly

The entry from Diane Plowman said so very eloquently what Russell and I feel about having known Jan and watching Jim's constant devotion to her through many difficult years.
Our family recalls with great fondness vacations in Minnesota at the Davis cabin, enjoying the lake, the outdoors and Jan's excellent hospitality as hostess. She was always interested in the lives of others, and that wonderful smile of hers encouraged all to share in the delight she took in being around friends.
When we were all college students together at UN-L, life looked rosy. Our happiness at having found a life mate would guarantee a long life together, but it's not always meant to be. Thank God that Jim and Jan made the very most of those years that they did have together.
With much fondness,
Sherry and Russell Miller

Dear Jim,
I am thinking about you and can only imagine what you and your family are going through at this moment and the days ahead. Discussion in the support group, the other evening, naturally turned to you and Jan and we pondered on recent events and what you might be going through. -Each of us shares in your loss because we are a family. I truly believe when one of us hurts, so do we all.
You are right. We would have loved to have known Jan, but we were able to understand through you; what a vibrant and energetic wife, mother and grandmother she was; how she fully engaged in life with joy and passion. We could feel it in your spoken words and from the beautiful, written tribute you composed. It is so tragic that Alzheimer’s disease robbed her from you and yours. It makes our heart's sad. It is so unfair and unjust and leaves us helpless.
In your grief and sorrow, I hope you will know how very much I admire your caring and devotion to Jan. You not only amaze me with your strength, but your sensitivity and thoughtfulness is remarkable. …and to find some humor in the situation, just every now and then, showed me your spirit under fire. –And I imagined Jan’s strength and tenacity as well. She went through so much and battled so many health issues. Your love, respect and devotion for each other honors your marriage and family. I know too that you both enjoyed your life together and were able to laugh at the irony of God’s plan. I now picture her tending a garden filled with colorful wildflowers; looking down on her family with deep love and pride, but smiling. –For me, just meeting your son Scott a few times, showed how your combined love for each other, as husband and wife, makes up the beautiful tapestry of your family and the heirloom that will be passed through generations.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. With deepest sympathy,
Diane

Jim - I am saddened by your loss. It has been good being in the "young onset support group" with you. How fortunate that she enjoyed life and family so much for most of her life and your marriage.
