Jay Guthrie was one of the strongest, yet kindest, gentlest, peaceful men I have ever known. Unbelievable inner strength & determination. And great sense of humor. Jay always made me laugh. And I will always remember Jay from Wildwood elementary playground, Mahtomedi Middle school lunches, band, St.
A's confirmation & high school too. Reconnected briefly just prior to his passing and I still marvel at how strong, and unbelievable example he set as he lived life, then exited, knowing it was to be. All his thoughts he expressed to me were of love & concern to those he would leave behind. A true class act always. I continue to think of you & miss you Jay. Thanks for being my friend, Steven C. Dear Guthrie family,
I am very sad to read the history of Jtek and the loss of Jay. I am a mechanical engineer, 49 soon to be turning 50 and your story hit too close to home. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with diverticulosis, and eventually died in the hospital. I was brought back by an amazing team of doctors and lots of blood. I am very lucky to be here, and very saddened that Jay is not. My best wishes to your family.

I was investigating the sire for the shifter compatibility device then I saw the info on the about us page.
I pray that you are coming to terms with your loss. These times are very challenging to go through. May God bless you and keep you and give you peace and strength.

I am both saddened and moved by that path chosen by Jay and the legacy he left for Ryan. I am also excitedly working on a product for road/triathlon cycling and am inspired by your enterprising spirit. I wish your family the deepest joy and comfort for the new year and for many years to come.

I know when my own Father passed the first Christmas was bitter sweet. We enjoyed our children but longed for the cornerstone of our household and our family in the wake of his passing. I'm sure this will be a difficult holiday season for your family, but hopefully both our Dad's are watching over us from some distant place smiling on all the wonderful things this life offers. God Bless and Merry Christmas.

Dear Ann, Ryan, and family,
I never had a chance to correspond with Jay, but am merely one of the thousands who stumbled upon his website in search of that "special piece" to complete a personal dream, project bike, and was blown away by the creativity, skill, and modesty of this incredibly talented man. The rare combination of designer, engineer, and craftsman, each at the highest level.
I was also touch by the cancer story, having gone through a very tough treatment myself for a year in 2008. Why one person is still here and another not, is unfair. Please know that all of us who have learned of Jay's passing send a sincere hug and wish you the best in getting through this difficult period.
Jay's revolutionary thinking touched the minds and souls of many people. His memory and his many contributions to the evolution of bicycle design will live on in all of us.

I was one of the first to read the sad news in July on the jtek website, but I wanted to leave space to those who knew Jay better. Now, after the link to the /Guest Book/ moved, it's time for me to add an overseas comment.
Over years I tried to find the components for my dream bike. Finally there were Jay's ideas and ideals that enabled My Bike to become real. I had some nice mail contact with Jay that time; this correspondence will stay in my - backed - mail archive.
Fortunately I still was able to pass pictures of the 'resulting' bike to Jay for comment.
Jay's products were the only option concerning quality and functionality to make this happen. One Man /makes/ the difference.
Best of luck to you, Ann, Ryan. As I spot the jtek logo nearly every day, my memories stay on.. and this bike's designed to last..

Dear Ann, Ryan, and family,
I knew Jay, worked with him, was an avid supporter of all he did, and valued his friendship as well as professional abilities. Jay was always there to help me, a small-time player in the bike world, as much as he would've any major-league entity. His passion was evident, always. I will miss him, and look forward to working with Ryan to continue Jay's legacy. Creative talent expressed in one's work is also love made evident. Be at peace, Jay, and know that there are many who value your creative heart.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my father to a brain tumor almost 4 years ago and know how difficult it is.
I started my life in endurance sports running a marathon in my father's memory in 2008. All I can say is that our loved ones live on through us. I couldn't help but notice the date - June 27th - that was the date of my Ironman in France. This was also in memory for my father, but perhaps Jay powered me through the tough climbs.
Warmest Regards,
Cody

Dear Ann & family,
I only met Jay via email and a couple phone calls in buying products. He was always pleasant and easy to deal with. My heart aches for you as I have an idea of your pain. My wife lost her battle with cancer in Feb of 2009.
I trust and pray that your family is holding you up. Healing is slow and long. Don't be afraid to greive.

As a hobby bikebuilder, I see original product designers as personal friends and co-creators. I just found out about Jay Guthrie´s passing, precisely as I was looking for a device to perform a function I thought only I had ever thought of. Lo and behold, here was the Double Control brake cable splitter, just as I had imagined it: a work of art! I´d like to thank Jay for reading my mind, but in his absence I can only hope that Ryan will continue in his father´s creative footsteps. My condolences to the family and friends of someone who must´ve been an all-around great guy.

Ann,
Sorry to hear about your loss. May you find comfort in the wonderful memories that you and Jay made over the years.
Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although you were loved dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."

Nancy, Ann, Bart, Lindsay, Ryan....We are so sad for all you've had to endure. The loss of Craig, now the loss of Jay - it seems so overwhelming! We have had the privelage of knowing your family since we were little kids. Jay and Craig would play with us while our mom's had coffee and talked. Those are some of my favorite childhood memories...which paved the way for lifelong friendships. Jay was an amazing man! So intelligent, kind and thoughtful. His suffering is behind him - and I pray for all of you as you grieve the incomprehensible loss of such a stellar man - who meant so much to so many. Rest in peace, precious friend.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why Jay left this earth so soon, or why he left before you were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, you will begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived.
