Jerome Ryan Obituary

Age 82, died peacefully in his sleep, as he wished, November 15, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Marybeth Ryan. A Korean War veteran and graduate of the Minnesota Institute of Art, Jerome was a self described "easel artist" who traveled throughout the US and world painting portraits and landscapes, eventually settling in Crisfield, MD where he realized his dream of living near the water, sailing and creating his wonderful artwork in his home studio. Jerome is predeceased by his siblings, Jack and Joan and his wife, Alex. He is survived by his first wife, Virginia Ryan; children and spouses, Matt and Glenda Ryan, Kevin and Marybeth Ryan, Katie and Rich Ryan-Mann and Timm and Kevin Ryan-Young; 4 grandchildren; the children of his deceased sister, the Janeceks in whose lives he had great impact; lifelong friend, Bob "Red" Florin; dear friend, Betsy Thornton and many other friends, too numerous to mention. Jerome was quite a character. Not only an accomplished artist but a prolific storyteller, he delighted in crafting and delivering a story to any and all. In his final act of selflessness he bequeathed his remains to the Ohio State University Department of Anatomy. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date in Minnesota, per his request, near his beloved St. Croix River. Those who wish can make donations to Mount Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, OH 43215. www.spencefuneralhome.com

So debonair!

September 3, 2012

Hi Ryans:
I've thought often of Jerome since Alex died, but didn't know where to get info. Finally Googled him tonight and got here. Certainly had to chuckle about the storytelling reference!
I'm sending a mug shot of Jerome taken before the Peru trip so the person meeting them could pick them out of the crowd. Have to wonder what happened to the Crisfield house and the Junk...
The last time Terry & I saw Jerome and some of you was at Matthew's, and we have a picture of his painting of your view in our photo stream. Many fond memories... Cissy & Terry (from MD and now in WA state.) email is [email protected]

Hi Ryans,
We've thought of Jerome often since Alex died, but didn't know who to contact for update. Decided to Google him and was, sadly, directed me here. Certainly had to chuckle about the storytelling reference! Must wonder what happened to the junk (aka boat) and the house in Crisfield. Spent many, many pleasant times with the both of them, meeting many of you along the way.
The photo I hope to include was a "mug shot" taken before the trip to Peru - the first time Alex allowed her credit card to be used on the Internet!
Much love and fond memories, Cissy & Terry from MD days, now in WA state where we last saw Jerome and some of you @ Matthew's. (I wanted to purchase a print of the painting he did of that view, but I'll have to settle for the photo of it that I have in my photo stream.)
