Joan K. JOHNSON

1932 - 2016

Born in Duluth, MN., Dec. 29, 1932, Joan K. Johnson died at her Woodbury residence on May 27 after a short illness. She graduated from Duluth's Stanbrook Hall, later receiving her nursing degree at Gustavus Adolphus. She worked in Houston and New York City before returning to MN. Joan spent 40 years as a nurse, recruiter, negotiator, and member of Human Resources at St. Paul's Miller Hospital, now United/Allina, After her retirement, she enjoyed the North Shore, friends and time to walk the dog. Joan loved reading--especially mysteries and biography. She also loved manicures, fashion, spas, new cars, "Blue Bloods," champagne, chocolate, Duluth, and many dogs over years of pet ownership. Preceded in death by parents, Ethel and Verner and brother, Verner. Survived by wonderful friends: Anne, Larry, Barb, Jack, Sharon (NYC), Carol, Gretchen, Brian (CA), Lucy, Jean, and her surrogate family, the Kuper's (Woodbury). Gratitude to the staffs of Stonecrest and United, including ABC caregivers, Marci and Evie. A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held at Michael Servetus Unitarian Church, 6565 Oakley St., Fridley, June 24, at 1pm, the Reverend Dr. Carol M. Worthing, San Diego, presiding. A coffee reception will follow. Coming home to Duluth, internment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, 2516 Woodland Avenue, (Duluth,) June 25, at 1pm. Memorials suggested to "no-kill shelters" or the Humane Society of the donor's choice. Joan wrote, "If anyone asks how I want to be remembered, please say the following: I had a great family, friends and life. I wouldn't change a thing."
