Lynn-
I just returned from China/India trip and heard the news. I am so sorry and you and your family are in my prayers. Jon is the reason I am a plant breeder today. He was my PHD advisor at U of M, I graduated in 1980. I have many fond memories of Jon-his role as a mentor and excellant corn breeder. Be assured he left a great legacy. I now work for Monsanto as Lead for Molecular Breeding. Jon will be missed. I am so saddened tonight as I just heard of this.

Dear Lynn and family - we will remember Jon fondly from Horseshoe Lake. We just saw him Sunday afternoon - reading a book in the porch. We were shocked to hear of his death. He was always doing something active at the cabin - whether it was work or play. Our prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Kyle and Kelly Kirsch and family

Lynn, Tracy and Kirk, our prayers and sympathy are with you all in this time. Don let me know that he had passed away. Sorry to hear about the loss and he will be missed.

It had been too long since I seen Jon, but the memories are as fresh as if it was yesterday. His gentle nature, his hard work ethic, his willingness to teach and explain, even when their didn't seem to be time. What a blessing to have crossed his path, I do appreciate it.

I remember the time he rode out the storm at the MN station when the tornado went past, he seemed to me to have no fear. He will be missed. The other memory that stands out so clear is " Buck" I don't think I ever did get to ride in the front seat with Jon.

Tracy, I trust the three children under five years old are more fun then the days out in the field at Holden's. You were a great employee then and I trust a great mother now. Blessing to you all.

Lynn, our prayers go out to you as well, words can not express the grief and the loss. I pray that you will find comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Lynn and Family - Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult and unexpected time. Needless to say, we were very surprised to hear Jon died. I'm happy I saw Jon at Roger Freese's funeral a few years ago. But am disappointed we'll not see him in his/our retirement. When you can, send me a note as I don't think we have your address.

Dear Lynn & Family:
I was deeply saddened to hear of Jon's passing. Jon was a great friend and inspiration to me going back to my graduate school days at Minnesota. I remember that he was the first professor that we simply called Jon rather than Dr. Geadelmann. It was his nature to make you feel at ease. All the plant breeding students enjoyed his class and he always took time to listen to students and respect their ideas and opinions. Jon introduced me to the commercial seed corn industry and smaller family seed businesses. His guidance has had a great impact on my career. The plant breeding world and many others have lost a true friend.
With kind regards,
Jim Parks

My father, Larry Smith, told me about Jon's passing. I worked for Jon back in the late 1970s and early 80s on the corn breeding project at the U of M. Jon was a very good mentor and boss and I enjoyed working for him very much. I am sorry to hear of his death. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. Jon was a true Gentleman, a great Educator, my Mentor and my Friend. He was very dedicated to the corn industry and corn breeding. His Footprint in the industry will not be measured by the inbred lines that he developed or the hybrids that he had go commercial. It will be measured by the Corn Breeders that he educated and the excellent start that he gave them in the industry and life. I was lucky to be one of those and had the pleasure of working with Jon for 25+ years. Jon will be missed.

What a shock to hear about Jon's death. Jon was a great neighbor for Lynn and Cheryl Olson at Horseshoe Lake. Upon Lynn's death last summer Jon took it upon himself to help out Cheryl with different projects. He made a new mailbox and wooden inserts with plastic for their screened in porch for the winter months. Jon will be greatly missed. Our sympathy goes out to Jon's family.
