Kathy Foss Bakkum

Foss Bakkum, Kathy - Age 54 On May 19, 2004 She was preceded in death by her father Magnus O. Foss, Jr. And is survived by her mother, Marjorie L. Foss; sisters, Susan (Stan) Furr and Janet (Bernel) Bayliss; brothers, Jef (Keiko) Foss and Steven (Carol) Foss. She leaves her special friend, Tom, adored cat, Kitty and beloved nieces and nephews, Kyla (Jorge), Rygo, Jonathan, Justin, Roshan, Emma, Anna, Ruby, Lilli and Evan. Kathy was born in Fargo, ND, May 20, 1949. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1967 and received a B.A. in art and dance from the University of Iowa, Iowa City and a graduate degree in the visual arts from M.S.U., Moorhead. She was an abundantly talented artist, photographer, dancer and choreographer. She performed with Plain People traveling throughout ND, before founding Mahkahta Dance Theater in 1980. Under Kathy's direction, for 10 years, Mahkahta produced over 190 performances in MN, ND and Canada. She was also a gifted teacher, sharing her knowledge of dance and fitness with children and adults in workshops and classes. She taught graphic design at NDSU, Fargo, and was director of Graphic Design at MSU. She received many local and national awards for her work. Since moving to the Twin Cities in 1990, she has been a corporate fitness instructor and personal trainer. She taught her last classes during the week before Easter. Her perseverance and grace were extraordinary. She will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives. A celebration of her life will be held at THE FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 406-8th St S., Moorhead on Saturday, 6/5 at 11 AM. Special thanks to Dr. Judson and the staff at Women's Health and on 7-C Fairview U of M Hospital, for their treatment of Kathy's ovarian cancer, Masonic Cancer Center at Fairview U of M Hospital and the N.C. Little Memorial Hospice, 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina, MN 55435, for their generous care. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to those caregivers.
