Kenneth FICK Obituary

Age 99, of St. Paul Passed away peacefully of old age at his daughter's home on December 10, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and May Fick, sister Marjorie Tjosvold, brother Richard, special friend Marilyn Monson, and beloved wife of 61 years, Flossie. He will be greatly missed by his children Roger of Vashon, WA, Carole Carlson (Dave) of Chanhassen, MN, Mary Vandegrift (Dave) of St. Paul, MN, John of Marine, MN; grandchildren Todd, Jill (Joe), Kelsey, Ben, Tom (Brooke), Dan, Eric, Lisa, Dylan, and great-granddaughters Lucy and Vivi; former daughter-in-law Teri, brother Neil, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ken served in the army from 1943, including combat on Okinawa, Japan, until his honorable discharge in 1946. Ken attended the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering in 1950. He worked for Sheehy Construction Company in St. Paul for 46 years. Ken managed the construction of many familiar buildings in the Twin Cities including two concourses and the air traffic control tower at Minneapolis International Airport, the tenant building at Ridgedale Shopping Center, and the Phillips-Wangensteen building at the University of Minnesota. He was a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ken was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He and Flossie traveled the world together. His hobbies included listening to symphony orchestra concerts, water skiing, and playing bridge. Ken and Flossie spent many sunny summer days at their lake cottage on Clear Lake near Forest Lake, MN. They enjoyed spending winters at their condo in Maderia Beach, FL where Ken swam in the pool, played beach games and went sightseeing with his grandchildren, attended concerts, and ate at a variety of restaurants. Ken joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1956 where he served on the church council, various committees, the Improvers and helped with the lutefisk dinner for many years. Ken was known for his ready smile, generosity, unfailing courtesy, never forgetting a name, and always having a pen and paper in his shirt pocket. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Fairview Hospice for their support during the past 6 months. A celebration of his life will be planned at a future date. Memorials preferred to the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra or Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Paul, MN.

Ken was a wonderful man who was a big factor in the success of Sheehy Construction where he served as EVP for many years. He partnered with my father to build a great company that still survives today. He was a Kind, warm , gentle and soft spoken man who will be missed . Ken was one of the good guys
