Kyle Tierney Obituary

Tierney, Kyle Richard Beloved Son, Grandson, Friend Age 7 of Stillwater Kyle was our real life angel. He gracefully took on the many challenges he faced after being diagnosed with a brain tumor and suffering a stroke. Kyle courageously fought for over 4 ½ years. He had the kindest heart and fully enjoyed every day. His sweet smile and that twinkle in his eye could charm anyone. Survived by parents Rick and Kris Tierney; brother Ryan; grandparents Jim and Barb Tierney, and Bill and Pat Katzmark; great-grandmothers Lorraine Schmidt and Florence Crowley; aunts and uncles Tracie and Bart Murphy, Katie and Brian Lee of New Jersey, and Steve and fiancé Janelle Erdman; cousins Tyler, Molly and Brian Jr.; special cousin Anna Brozak and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Special thank you to so many that have helped us through Kyle's Journey. We could not have been as strong without the support of family, friends, and neighbors. We are so grateful to the many doctors, nurses, therapists and other staff at Children's Hospital-St. Paul that embarked on this journey with us and made our stays and visits more comfortable and truly welcoming. Everybody at Gillette Children's hospital that helped us to learn life wasn't over it would just be different and to truly enjoy every moment. Thanks to all the therapists at Courage St. Croix that helped Kyle to make his last summer his strongest. Thank you to staff and friends at Stillwater ECSE and Anderson Elementary for making school so fulfilling and a wonderful oasis for Kyle. Good days for Kyle were the days he felt good enough to go to school. He loved to be with his classmates doing the activities kids do. Thank you for making our hearts smile. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL 11AM Monday March 31, 2008 at ST. MICHAEL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 611 South 3rd Street, Stillwater. Rick, Chris and Ryan,

I wish I had known Kyle had earned his angel wings before yesterday.

Even though I only spent a short period of time with him last summer at the MN Ride For Kids, he left a big impression on my heart. I have prayed for him since that day.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,
Kathy

Rick and family,
My heart breaks for your family's loss of someone who was clearly an inspiration to you and the entire community. From down here in Louisville, Ky it is hard to get a full sense of Kyle's journey but the pictures and newspaper articles on his web site give me a small sense of the many lives he touched and will continue to touch with the memories with which he blessed everyone. Rick, Kris, Ryan, the rest of the Tierneys and Katzmarks will all be in my thoughts and prayers. May God and the strength of the amazing support group you have, continue to support you as you struggle.

I never met Kyle, but I've been reading your blog for him for years and I feel as if I've lost an important friend. Kyle touched so many lives without even knowing it. I grieve for your family, but this little guy got his tremendous strength and beautiful outlook from you so I know you will move forward together, stronger and even more committed to your beliefs.

Dear Tierney Family,

My family sends their respects and wants you to know we are thinking of you all. Kyle has touched so much of our community in so many important ways. I think I've learned more about the beauty and potential in people just by knowing him and those involved with him. Out of great difficulty comes great compassion - your family just by being you - have taught all of us great lessons in faith, compassion and personal grace. We are so sorry for your loss - but so lucky to have known Kyle and his special influence on so many. He is an angel watching out for you now - may your lives be blessed.

To Rick,Kris & Ryan: When God calls little children to dwell with Him above, we always question the wisdom of His love. For no heartache can compare with the death of one young child, who does so much to make the world seem wonderful and mild. Perhaps God tires-always calling the aged to His fold, and so He picks a rosebud before it can grow. God knows how much we need them and so He picks but few! To make the land of heaven more beautiful to view. “Believing this is difficult”, yet somehow we must try, for the saddest word that mankind knows will always be "goodbye". And so when little ones depart we who are left behind, must realize how much God loves children...for angels are hard to find. Kyle must have been an amazing little man. So sorry for your Loss.
