In 1966, when I was 12, I went on a cross country trip with my teacher and some classmates. We mostly camping but also stayed with relatives when we could. One of our first stops was to visit Aunt Louisa and Uncle Ralph on their sod farm in Wisconsin. My Uncle Bud and Aunt Shirley came over from Madison with their kids, my cousins. In the morning Aunt Louisa had laid out a big breakfast with a slice of cantaloupe for each setting. There were 7 of us traveling so it was a big farm table breakfast. I didn´t like melon at the time but I didn´t want to upset Aunt Louisa so I ate it. We had a wonderful visit and went on our way.
Another story, many years later Aunt Louisa and Uncle Ralph were visiting my Mother at my house in NY. On the morning they were leaving I drove them to the airport in Albany. The date was September 11, 2001. We had no idea what was to happen that day. Aunt Louisa and Uncle Ralph took off but ended up getting grounded somewhere and it took them a few days to finally get home in Florida.
