Dearest Family,

My heartfelt condolences go out to you during this time. Although I know it comes to no surprise to anyone that knew her, Auntie Lou was truly an amazing woman.

Auntie Lou may have been the cousin to my grandmother, Vicenta Sablan, but based on their close relationship with each other, as well as with my family, she was always seen in my eyes as a second grandmother.

Her visits to Long Beach were always something I looked forward to, even as a young child. As I grew older, I became more appreciative to have such a wonderful person to be in my life.
Her stories of her journey through life were always something to admire.

There are many things I will miss about my Auntie Lou. I will miss her smile, her calm voice, her comforting hugs, her stories, her wonderful cooking, but most of all, the tremendous amount of love she shared with my family.

Although I am saddened by her passing, I have much comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place. She is now rejoicing in the kingdom of heaven with God, and is now in the wonderful company of my mother, Toni Sablan, my grandmother Vicenta Sablan, and all of our family and friends that have gone before us.

Knowing them, I bet they are sitting together, smiling and laughing, cooking up a big Guamanian feast for all to enjoy.

Auntie Lou, may you rest in peace. I love you and miss you already.

Darlene,
You probably do not remember me, but we shared the same homeroom in high school. I was honored to have known your mother when I worked under her as a summer trainee for the Government of Guam many years ago. I worked with her for two summers and she left me with an indelible memory of her graciousness and kindness. Please know that Mrs. Leon Guerrero (as I knew her) was a mentor in many ways. She was loving, caring and a beautiful woman inside and out. You and your family have been especially blessed to have had her in your lives. I would like to extend my sincere heartfelt condolences to all of your family and please know that you will all be in my prayers.

Mrs. Leon Guerrero was my assistant principal at Agana Heights Elementary School. I was one of a crop of novice teachers fortunately placed at the school. She encouraged me to always strive to be the best educator and remember that the students are my main focus. Si Yuus Maase Mrs. Leon Guerrero, for being my mentor, counselor, and having the patience to guide me through those rough first years. Thirty-something years later, I'm still in the profession of teaching. It was due to you and I thank you. May you now rest in peace.

Auntie Lou was my absolute favorite auntie! I will miss her so much, but I know that she's with my Mom and Grandma now. I feel so blessed to have shared so many great moments with her. She was THE coolest lady and I loved cooking, shopping and talking together. Our family was always so excited when she came to visit my Grandma during the summer months, and she was the best tour guide during my trip! She lit up when she talked about all of you, and you know more than anyone that she was an extraordinary woman. To Uncle Vince, Auntie Esther, Uncle Joseph, Auntie Darlene and cousins, may you seek comfort in the many warm memories of your mom/grandma. May God bless you all during this time. Rest in peace, my dear Auntie Lou.

If Aunty Lou was to leave a letter for her family it would read something like this:
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

We are truly saddened to read of Lou's passing. We were so blessed to have known her and her children. The last time we saw her was at TJ Manibusan's wedding, and we drove her from Washington to Sacramento after the wedding....a very pleasant and enjoyable ride, not to mention QUITE educational. She shared so many interesting caveats about Guam that we didn't know...thank you so much, Lou.
