Oh my. Just heard the news about Mark. Life has a way of wisking us out in so many directions. Grieving the loss of a man of God who loved people deeply and had a special way of connecting the heart of Jesus to a persons life. For the time I had to know to Mark as a fellow youth leader at Open Door he touched me with the love of Jesus in a very special way. Connie I grieve with you and your’s but also rejoice that we will see Mark again because of Jesus’ sacrifice and love that was a hallmark of Mark’s life. Love you all in Jesus’ mighty name. Knew Mark through playing Ping Pong. Almost never bested him, especially since he always kept improving his game. His personality was such that you almost felt good, even losing to him Almost. He will very much be missed.

Connie and girls, I was so sorry to hear about Mark's sudden passing. This will be a very difficult trial for you all. Lean on Jesus as much as you can. I am certainly praying for all three of you and so sad about this news. Praise the Lord that we have eternal life and this world is not our home.

I am sad to learn of Mark's passing, but more thankful than before that he attended a Breck reunion after I had not seen him in many years. His kindness and friendly attitude endured. In high school, we played tennis often to determine who would play #1 singles, but it was a formality; Mark beat me handily every time. Mark had such grace that I never minded losing to him. His classmates will miss him.

I have unfortunately never met Mark, but when I saw this shared on Facebook I knew there was a high probability that we were related so I checked the family history records my late great aunt Lois had left me and it turns out Mark was a 3rd cousin to me. I won't be able to attend the service today but I wanted to extend my condolences to you in this difficult time, especially so with the recent loss of Gerald. My aunt Lois spent many years tracking the Elert family history back many generations and I'm not sure if she had opportunity to share her work with your side, so if you're ever curious about that feel free to contact me. May Mark's memory be a blessing to you all.

I'll miss our "battles with the paddles" over at the club. Especially when we'd decide to not take it so seriously and just horse around, playing some doubles with Gary & Kevin :')

Dear Connie, Faith, and Aleah,
Your husband and dad was a wonderful man: friendly, brilliant, humorous, unique. I am so blessed to have known him, to have gone out for Chinese food with your family, to your house, attend graduations, see all of you at Heritage school events. Mark made everyone feel at ease and feel loved. He loved Jesus and he loved his family immensely. My heart goes out to you in the heavenly Homegoing of your husband and dad. While we know he is with the Lord and in perfect health now, my prayers are with you as you try to make sense of the suddenness of your loss. I love you guys so much!

Mark, and Family
Very suprised to hear of Mark's passing. He was so full of life.
You will surely be missed. I always enjoyed seeing your smiling face. We played table tennis together, with many others, at the club. You adapted quickly to playing with me, a left hander. I think we won more than we lost...that would've been your fault.
Thank you
My heart goes out to you, and yours

I will be praying for Mark's family during this difficult time.
I was introduced to Mark through Tim and ended up playing many ping pong matches with him over the years. When I wanted to buy a used paddle for my youngest son who was just starting off, I knew who to call!!! Mark had many paddles as he was always trying to find that perfect combination to give him an edge. I will miss the many competitive matches we have had, the pizza and conversations at McCarron's and his kind spirit. John 3:16 - he is truly home now with his heavenly father and I look forward to our next match.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I missed the joy we had together playing at the club and in many different tournament in different states. I remember we even plan for our next tournament since last time in September you couldn’t make it because of your daughter schooling or something. We will miss you a lot.

I am incredibly fortunate to have been able to call Mark a close friend. I met Mark at US Internet, and when he learned that I was brand new in my Christian faith, he immediately took me under his wing. His guidance and mentorship quickly evolved into a brotherhood. Mark was always eager to help me through spiritual battles, encourage me as a husband through a difficult marriage, and lift me up when my wife left me. He always pointed me back to Jesus, and that's what I'll miss the most about losing my brother. It seemed that Mark and I shared so many passions, whether it be ping pong, fishing, music, or Jesus. I have to credit Mark for encouraging me to write songs again. He was always so persistent about making sure I didn't waste any talent that God gave me. I will miss all of his quirks, of which there were many. It brings me great relief to know that Mark is with his father in heaven. However, I'm sad to lose his persistent presence on earth as one of the best brothersand friends a guy could ask for. I'll remember him every time I pick up my guitars, as he's had his hands on every one of them, and even helped me get them. I'll remember him every time I pick up a bass fishing pole, as they all came from him. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Elert family. If there's any way I can help carry this burden please reach out, as you all mean so much to me.

I can’t say I knew Mark really well as I was just getting to know him the year prior to our lockdown. We were talking and visiting at table tennis and I noticed he had a sheet of new rubber in his hands asking me questions about how to glue it. I offered and he wanted to pay me but I told him the first is always free. From then on he always said hello and offered to hit with me. I liked him he had a good soul. Hard to believe he’s left us and I will surely miss him once we reopen at Sabes. I will be thinking of him during your service. So sorry for all those who called him friend, a nice human being. I will plant something nice in my garden for his memory come spring. If you know what he liked let me know thanks, Sincerely Ross Reynolds

Mark was one of my closest friends in high school and into early adulthood. He was fundamental to introducing me to Jesus Christ and encouraging my walk with God. I am heartbroken to lose Mark and I am so sad we were not able to connect recently even though we both tried. Some of my most wonderful adventures in high school were spent with Mark by my side; fishing, hunting, playing guitar and just hanging out. I know without a doubt, that one day soon, I will see Mark again in heaven. I rejoice in the power of his faith and love for Jesus. And as sad and brokenhearted as I am right now I have hope because we shared a precious hope in the saving love and power of Jesus. I miss you Mark...for now. Love, your friend, Ricky Tick.
