Mark's Family Stoven

October 19, 2002

After Mark's death the family got together to tell Mark stories of which there were many. Everyone who knew Mark knows that he had no fear of anything. He was a daredevil and a risk taker. The riskier the better. Several times when mom and dad were out Mark took his little sisters for rides on his new motorcycle. He wiped out going down Ohio hill, one little sister after another. Jeanne still has the scars to prove it.

Another time when mom and dad were out on a Saturday night Mark decided to give Danny driving lessons even though neither of them were old enough to drive. Danny had his first lessons on how to do neutral drops and cookies, A must for all underage beginning drivers. He also gave Margie driving lessons during which she learned to back into a tree.

Mark was notorious for being accident prone. No one had any idea how many cars he wrecked or accidents he was involved in but we remembered that he had fallen off of motorcycles, boats, golf carts, horses, roofs, ladders and telephone poles. He fell off of a snowmobile one time and proceeded to get run over by another snowmobile that was going by. He has fallen through the ice and fallen down stairs. One time dad took some of the kids hiking in Lillydale. Mark fell down and hit his head on a rock and cracked the rock. We decided that it was a miracle that he lived as long as he did.

Though he lived life on the edge the biggest thrill of his life was when his daughter Sarah was born. He was a nervous wreck on the day she was born. It didn't help that the woman in the next room at the hospital sounded like she was being stabbed.Being reassured by Sabrina's coach Teresa he got through labor just fine. When Sarah was born his face lit up like the sunrise. He couldn't have been happier or more proud. He couldn't wait to tell grandma and grandpa about his little girl. As Sarah grew she continued to be the light of his life. They used to take long walks together at their cabin. They would have long, happy discussions about whatever was going on in their lives. Sarah loved her dad very much and she will really miss him as will we all.

Mark was a kind and loving man. There wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for his family or friends. When we were little dad went on strike and told us all that we would have to cut back for awhile. Mark went and got his piggybank and offered it to dad to help out. He went to California to help Rich and his family move back to Minnesota. He flew to Vegas to stand up for Marg and Kenny when they got married. He drove to Wisconsin to get his nephew Michael for a family party then drove him back again when it was over. He loved to take his little nephews fishing. He was a great babysitter and the kids always had a wonderful time with Uncle Mark. They liked to tease him and call him "Pickle Head".

There was never a dull moment with Mark around. We never knew what he would do next. We will treasure our memories of Mark and he will always be with us in our hearts.

The family would like to thank everyone who came to the wake and the funeral, those who sent flowers, memorials, food, prayers and condolences. We appreciated everything you did to make this difficult time a little easier.

Sincerely,

The Stoven Family

angels in heaven

my friend is on the way

unbelievable he left us

no more could he stay

comfort and guide him

teach him to be true

for he is a little playful

but remember he is new

just say Mark pay attention

stay always at our side

protect family as they walk

through life

forever be their guide

so angels in heaven

send forth notice and celebrate

Mark has joined the forces and

is no longer at the gate

May Jesus touch all of our

hearts with His peace

Our sympathy goes out to Mark's family. Mark always had a warm smile. We will always be there for you, Sarah.

Somewhere under a bluer sky

In a higher realm than where eagles fly

In a land of beauty beyond our knowing

With trees and flowers and waters flowing

And mountains of unearthly grace

A loving Lord has made a place

And one day, through an opening door

We will find that glorious evermore.
