Mary, VINCENT CSJ

1948 - 2023

Attentive, compassionate listener, tender caregiver, avid reader and writer, with a marvelous sense of humor, are just a few of the ways those who loved Mary "Dee" Vincent, describe her. She was born the oldest of seven in Green Bay, WI, to Edward J. and Bernice (Lurquin) Vincent, on May 1, 1948, and died on the evening of November 9, 2023, at Carondelet Village in St. Paul. Mary's educational career included a BA in Sociology from St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI, (1970) an MS in Vocational Rehabilitation from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, WI (1975), and an MA in Theology from United Theological Seminary in New Brighton, MN (1991). After college in Wisconsin, Mary worked in Vocational Rehabilitation, and then as an Academic Counselor at St. Mary's Junior College in Minneapolis. Yet, even in her youth she was attracted to the prayer commitment and joyful living witnessed by the CSJ sisters who taught her. This curiosity eventually led her to discern a vocation as a sister, and in 1990 Mary made her final vows as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Paul Province. Career counseling was her primary ministry at the University of St. Thomas and Cretin-Derham High School in St. Paul. From there Mary was on staff at St. Joseph House in Minneapolis, a Grant Writer for St. Joseph's Hope Community in Minneapolis, and Community Living Coordinator for Bethany Convent in St. Paul. "My work is a significant part of my ministry as a Christian, but ministry means 'witness' to me, so that my life and every encounter with another is an opportunity to serve." ~ Mary Vincent, CSJ Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kathleen (Vincent) Hart and brother Tom Vincent. She is survived by sisters Susan (Vincent) Howes and Karen (Vincent) Humiston; brothers Edward, Joe and Chris Vincent; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, and Sisters of St. Joseph and Consociates, St. Paul Province. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 29th, at 11:00 AM, in Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, with burial following at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
