Peter Roland HINSCH

1921 - 2022

April 15, 1921 – October 18, 2022 Preceded in death by Ruth, his beloved wife of 73 years. Peter will be remembered for his wit, charm, and conversation. Peter served as a navy pilot in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He spent his entire career at Deluxe Corporation, retiring as CFO in 1983. Peter was active in Saint Paul civic affairs. He held various posts in the United Way, The Science and Arts Council, Saint Paul Jaycees, and the Winter Carnival. He also served on several business boards. After he retired, Peter and Ruth spent many happy years wintering in Naples, Florida. They returned to Saint Paul for Christmas holidays and summer to enjoy their family, especially their grandchildren, who Peter loved to regale with his stories. Peter remained active and involved until his death. An avid and lifelong golfer, Peter earned several trophies and even at 90, was "shooting his age." At age 99 he discovered online duplicate bridge when Covid closed the bridge center. In addition to his wife Ruth, Peter is preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Brietchopf, Helene Hamilton, and Gretchen Reilly. He is survived by children Linda Westenberg (Bob), Nancy Hartzler (Bob), and Peter Jr. (Kay); grandchildren, Rick Westenberg (Francesca), David Westenberg (Taryn), Katie Westenberg (Dan), Nick Hartzler, Matthew Hartzler (Greta), Laura Short (Chris), Max Hinsch (Allie) and nine great-grand children.
