I've been staring at this screen for almost an hour and I'm still drawing a blank. I've been putting this off for days, thinking that something would just come to me and I'd think of something brilliant to bring comfort to everyone who has known my grandma.
Yep. Still drawin' a blank.
I do miss our phone conversations, though. I'd call her every Sunday before she got sick, just to listen to her talk. And talk and talk (and occasionally break into song). She'd tell me about the dog, the coffee, Grandpa's snoring, the newest flowers blooming. She just seemed to need an ear. I only saw her once after she got sick and I couldn't understand most of what she was saying. I just stood there, wishing she'd break out with a "OOOOH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MO-O-O-O-O-ORNING!" I didn't get that, of course. But eventually I started to hear that she was making friends and moving around more and more, taking walks, socializing. I figured that she didn't need me calling anymore, that she had plenty of people to listen to her stories. But now I realize that I really miss being her "ear". I wish I could go back and change things, but Grandma would tell me that I was wasting life on regretting. So I guess I'm going to go out and get It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and drink some tea with my vitamin C and just try to remember her with pigtails and that look she got when she was trying (very hard) to look innocent.
I miss my grandma.
