Richard Conlin Obituary

Age 93, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Uncle Extraordinaire Dick was born in Toledo, OH, on August 17, 1917, and grew up in a large and loving Irish-Catholic family. After serving in the European Theater in WWII, he went on to a career as an officer with the US Army Corps of Engineers. On retirement from the military he returned to his passion of land development and real estate. His lifelong loves were his wife, with whom he celebrated 65 wonderfully happy years, his family, his Catholic faith, history and world politics. We will always remember his great sense of humor and elaborately planned jokes, vacationing in Florida, and his mornings with coffee, a bagel, and the Wall Street Journal. He said he never met anyone who had a happier life than he did. Dick died on July 12th surrounded by his family, who sang him home to God. He is survived by his wife, Ursula (Becky); his children, Mary Eileen, Susan, Richard (Bud) and his wife, Susan, Patrick and his wife, Katherine. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Meagan (Michael) Phillips, Katie, Brenna (Luke) Healy, Emily (Thomas) Westlund, Suzy (David) Gorski, Maura (Bobby) Marko, Liam Goodacre, Alex, Ben, Daniel, and Ricky, and by 6 great-grandchildren. Waiting for him in heaven are his parents, Joe and Elsie; his sister, Betty Ann; his daughter, Sherri; and his infant daughter, Kathleen. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, July 18, 3 p.m. at the Church of St. Mark, 2001 Dayton Ave., St. Paul. Visitation Sunday 5-7 p.m. at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul and at church 1 hour prior to Mass on Monday. Burial 2 p.m., Tuesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery (Meet in Assembly Lane #4). Memorials may be sent to the St. Paul Seminary or the Society of the Divine Word.

Pat, Kath, Mrs. Conlin and the rest of the Conlin clan - I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Richard. I will remember him as an intelligent and kind man, and a wonderful host. I was always welcome in his home when Pat, Kath and the boys would visit from WI. I remember his generosity and good humor at Pat and Katherine's wedding in TRF, and the interest he showed in seeing his grandchildren learn, discover and grow. I know he will be missed greatly, and I will hold you all close in my heart.

Bud, the strong faith of your mom and dad have been a tremendous example, which you beautifully now carry on in your treasured family. How joy-filled your parents were each time we would see them at Mass.
May your dad now find eternal rest, and enjoy breakfast with our Lord from his heavenly home. We pray for his intercession for those of us still working toward that goal. God bless you all and your beautiful family. Our love, prayers and sympathy to Sue and the girls also. John and Rosemary Thuente

Dear Bud,
Sorry to read of your Dad's passing. From the description of him, I'd say he passed that legacy of humor and love of family onto you.
Your memories of him will keep him with you long after he is gone.
With sympathy,

I only met Mr. Conlin once when I visited him and his wife Ursula when his relative Father Dan Bauer, my friend and former seminarian classmate was on vacation from Taipei, Taiwan. For the brief time we meet, it was a wonderful individual.
